THANKSGIVING BASKETS:
A HEARTWARMING NORTHSIDE NAPLES KIWANIS TRADITION
This past Saturday, November 23rd, marked another successful chapter in a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition of the Northside Naples Kiwanis Club. Together with our sponsored Key Clubs from Aubrey Rogers, Palmetto Ridge, Gulf Coast, and Barron Collier High Schools, we gathered at Target in Tarpon Bay Plaza to spread the spirit of gratitude and giving.
Our mission? To bring Thanksgiving joy to 11 Habitat for Humanity families. Teams of Kiwanians and Key Clubbers were given $150 each, along with the specific details of a family they were shopping for. The family composition was shared to ensure appropriate and thoughtful shopping.
This event is not only about giving; it’s also a wonderful learning opportunity for our Key Clubbers. They practiced budgeting, decision-making, and teamwork—all while bridging the generational gap by working closely with Kiwanians. Each team carefully selected items to create a special Thanksgiving meal and then delivered the baskets directly to the families' homes, experiencing the true joy and satisfaction of giving.
We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Target, which generously provided each family with a $25 gift card, adding an extra touch of kindness to their holiday.
And a special moment reminded us all of how contagious the Thanksgiving spirit can be. While at Target, one of our members, past International President Case Van Kleef - who, at 92 years young, has been a Kiwanian serving the children of the world for over 60 years - was approached by a curious customer. Seeing all the energy and enthusiasm of our Key Clubbers, the man asked what was going on. Case shared our story, and when his team reached the checkout, this kind person was waiting there - to pay for their Thanksgiving basket in full. A beautiful act of generosity that captured the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
These moments of connection, generosity, and kindness inspire us and remind us of what Thanksgiving is truly about: sharing love and gratitude with others.
We look forward to carrying this spirit into this week’s Farm City BBQ (Wednesday 27th) at the Collier County Fairgrounds, where our Club members and Key Clubbers will once again be out in full force, volunteering and spreading good cheer.
Wishing everyone a joyful and meaningful Thanksgiving season!
