Constitution Week festivities kicked off with bells ringing across the city, a nod to the day the document was signed in 1787.

A glorious day to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution with Carillonneur Tim Sleep and the Daughters of Fort Payne.
At 4 pm Sept.17, 1787, 39 delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the United States Constitution. As the bells rang out then across the city in celebration, they do so now in grateful recognition of this cornerstone of our Democracy.

A busy day for members of Fort Payne, visiting Naper and Brookdale schools to mark the beginning of Constitution Week as well as receiving a CW proclamation from Mayor Scott Wehrli.

Bells will be ringing across Naperville today in honor of Constititution Week. This essential document to our democracy first was signed at 4 pm Sept. 17, 1787. Church bells across Philadelphia rang out at the moment of its signing, and since then, we the people have gathered to do the same. Join us at the Carillon steps today at 2.45 pm.

Constitution Week will be celebrated the week of Sept. 17-23, with a Mayoral Proclamation, the ringing of school bells and patriotic songs played at the Carillon. Join us at 2.45 pm on the Carillon steps to sing and ring the bells of liberty.
Posters and activities will be displayed all week at each of the three libraries. You can pick up a pocket-size version of the U.S. Constitution and learn more about the Preamble, the Bill of Rights, and how Americans became “We the People.”

At 2 am, these daughters gathered at Midway to shepherd 113 veterans through the airport and off to Washington, D.C., to see the Vietnam and Korean memorials. Once through security, they stopped for coffee, donuts and the singing of the national anthem. Upon their return, these 100 Vietnam vets and three Korean vets will receive a rousing welcome from a grateful community, the kind of reception they did not receive when they came home from war.
Thank you, Wrenne and Bonnie, for your dedication to these valiant veterans.

These dedicated Daughters from Fort Payne attended DAR Days in Lisle this past Saturday. Great way to start off the year in District IV.

Chaplain Lisa toured a fascinating America 250 display at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley last week. Artifacts from the Revolution and the Civil War were featured. The last picture is a Binn's Declaration of Independence, an engraving created by Philadelphia publisher John Binns in 1819 with facsimile signatures, key founders' portraits and the seals of the original 13 states. Thank you, Lisa!

Wonderful flag display at the intersection of Maple and College at Benedictine College to promote the America 250 celebration featuring The Founding Fathers Collection from 11 am- 3 pm Monday, June 29.

Correspondences from John Hancock, John Jay, John Quincy Adams and others, along with other historical displays, will be open to the public.

(Editorial note: needed a drone to capture the width and breadth of the flag display. Truly a sight to behold.)
