Our History - In January of 1927, an interest to initiate a preservation project known as the Hobson Mill Preservation Project evolved into a m
ovement to establish a chapter of the National Society Daughters of The American Revolution. On February 13, 1928, the Fort Payne Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of The American Revolution was organized with twenty-two charter members. The Charter was then confirmed by the National Board on May 19, 1928. The Fort Payne Chapter is named in recognition of a fort constructed near Naper Settlement by Captain Morgan L. Payne in 1832. The fort was intended to shelter and defend settlers during the Black Hawk Wars. Fort Payne was located on the present day grounds of Merner Fieldhouse of North Central College of Naperville. The Fort Payne Chapter, located in Naperville, Illinois, is composed of volunteers who work to support the goals and projects of the NSDAR. The Fort Payne Chapter meets monthly September through May.
