Bharathi Theertha will be shipping new Orthopedic Prosthetic materials worth $39,500 to Poosapati Rega, Vizianagaram District, A.P. India to Campus Challenge, a charitable organization that is serving deaf, mute, and physically challenged children. We are sending these materials collected by Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Naperville, IL USA. The Rotary Club of Naperville and Campus Challenge are collaborating to make this project successful. We are told that it would cost about $4600 to pay the import duty plus 18% General Sales Tax (GST) that will be refunded to the recipients. Kindly help us by donating your might.

After a hectic trip starting from January 31st up until Feb 16th, we reached Vizag about 5 days ago! Started on working to accomplish three objetives; 1) Choose an auspicious day to remodel our ancestral home to do humanitarian service activities, 2) Try to have a MOU/agreeement with the Narayanam Dharma Chalamiah Park to build a Community Center with an Early Childhood Brain Development and Autism block, 3) expedite the importing of prosthetic supplies from Chicago (about $50K worth) through the Rotary Club of Naperville to the Rotary Club of Vizianagaram, A.P. Thes supplies like slings, braces, etc, which are brand new will be supplied to physically challenged people in the Vizianagaram and Vizag area at no cost, 4) develop a Rotary project to prevent the entry of solid waste through the drains into the port of Visakha port ocean waters.

A few of us, for the last several months are toiling as volunteers to organize the 3rd International Conference on Water and Waste Management. The date is finally at our door step. The dates are February 24-26, 2021. The conference will take place simultaneously on two digital platforms to cover the time zones of India and the USA and the ones in between. Two weeks ago, Bharathi Theertha and Sri Annamacharya Project of NOrth America conducted a program involving the students of Tyagaraja Sanggetha Nritya Kala Niketan, an affiliate of Bharathi Theertha to perform a musical treat by their singing Annamacharya Sankeerthanams in a ZOOM session. Students from Bnagalore, Hyderabad, Vizianagaram, Simhachalam, and Cary, North Carolina, USA participated. Drs. Saradapurna Sonty , SAPNA, and Prakasam Tata and K. Vidyasagar compered the program. Smt. Mahendravada Lakshmi, Director of Tygaraja Sangeta Nritya Kala NIketan along with 62 audience attended the musical treat.

From January 20th onwards, Dr. Prakasam Tata, President of Bharathi Theertha joined two volunteers from the Chicago area to tour various places with the objective of volunteerism. These are, Dr. Roger Iliff, MD who obtained a Civil Engg., degree before he became a physician, and Syamsunder Pappuad, Professional Engineer of the Metro Water Recl. Dist. of Grtr. Chicago. We visited Burgula, a village 25 km from the Hyderabad. We met Dr. Alok Agarwal, President of Pragathi, who is doing wonderful developmental work with his team of workers to benefit the villagers of Burgula. He is doing philanthropic work in the areas of education, health, sanitation, and livelihood creation.
We visited the National Institute of Rural Development and interacted with D. WR Reddy, Director General. We are exploring training opportunities and certification of youth in the rural and semi-urban in the areas of sanitation and water and wastewater treatment.
We travelled to Araku-Paderu region of Andhra Pradesh for a couple of days to visit hamlets, where poor tribals live with the objective of how we can help in terms of providng safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation. The life of the tribal folks is very hard in these areas. We traversed the very narrow and difficult-to-walk pathways with 25 degree slopes in the hilly terrain, where no roads exist.
On the Republic Day, we had a dedication ceremony, where an ambulance was unveiled at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Treatment and Research Center. This ambulance is procured as a part of the Rotary International Grant championed by the Rotary Club of Naperville, IL USA and the Port City Rotary Club of Visakhapatnam. A formal dedication of all the medical equipment obtained thrugh the Rotary Global Grant will be made on March 4, 2018.
We made presentations at the Ambedkar University, Srikakulam, A.P., EPTRI, Hyderabad, Telangana, India Development Coalition of America, IL USA international conference held at Brahmakumari’s premisises, Kakatiya Institute of Medical Sciences,Warangal, Telangana.
Plans are also underway to make presentations at other locations in AP and also to celebrate National Science Day, and World Water Day.
