This tree has an interesting natural history.

There’s much more to be said about its native range, planting by settlers, the US Forest Service, and CCC, as well as its cultural uses.

Osage-Orange is native to North America but not to our region in northern Illinois. We remove Osage-Orange trees when restoring our prairie, savanna, and woodland habitat here.

Don't forget to get your ticker to join Alison Paul, The Conservation Foundation's Vice President of Community Conservation and a certified Forest Therapy Guide, for Forest Bathing at McDonald Farm on Thursday, October 15th!

Participants are invited to interact with nature through a series of prompts with opportunities to share and connect with other participants along the way. The experience ends with a tea ceremony!

Today's Wandering with Wonder feature site is Hawthorne Hill Nature Center in Elgin!

Hawthorne Hill Nature Center is a 67-acre natural oasis in Elgin, with two ponds, oak-hickory woods, native gardens, wetlands, and about two miles of easy trails to explore. It’s a wonderful spot for a peaceful walk, wildlife watching, or a family adventure — with a nature play area and hands-on nature center adding to the experience.

Wandering with Wonder was developed by the Kane Nature Rx Coalition.
