“Why I Walk”

Our “why” began in 2020.

That November was hard. The months that followed were a blur. Grief became a constant in our lives, but so did the people who walked alongside us. The friends we’ve made along the way have become lifelong relationships - built through grief, comfort, understanding, and a shared desire to keep going.

Max shaped us in more ways than words could ever express. He made us parents, and he remains the undercurrent in how we parent, love, and raise his siblings. His presence is woven into our family in ways both big and small.

As we round the corner toward our sixth walk, we walk for all the moments when we had no choice but to stand still. We walk for the moments that changed us, the moments that broke us, and the moments that taught us how to keep moving forward.

Most importantly, we walk for all of our children - the little boy whom we carry with us in our hearts every single day, and for his siblings, who are learning more about him and the place he holds in our family with each passing year.

Six walks. Six years of carrying his name forward. We walk for Max. For his siblings. For our family. For all the children whose stories deserve to be remembered.

“Why I Walk”

In August of 2024, my husband, Cameron, and I welcomed our sweet, beautiful daughter, Adalyn, into this world. She was with us for just two precious hours, but those moments changed us forever. 💕

The SHARE organization walked beside us through the darkest time of our lives. They provided hope, comfort, support, and resources that helped us navigate a journey no parent ever expects to face.

The reason why we walk: We walk for Adalyn.

We walk for all the recitals, birthday parties, graduations, holidays, and milestones she should have been here to celebrate. We walk because her life mattered. She may have only been in our arms for a short time, but she will forever be in our hearts.

This walk reminds us that our daughter’s story continues to make an impact. By walking, we honor her memory, keep her name alive, and let other grieving families know they are not alone.

Seeing the SHARE community come together to remember babies gone too soon is truly breathtaking. 🩷💙 It’s a powerful reminder that while our children may no longer be in our arms, they will always be part of our lives, our families, and our hearts.

Every step we take is for Adalyn—and for every baby whose life, no matter how brief, deserves to be remembered. Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever our daughter. 💜

✨ Raffle Feature!

We are 7 weeks away from the annual Share. A Walk to Remember! And we would like to feature a few Raffle Baskets to generate excitement as we draw closer to this special event.

The first basket we would like to feature comes with a big thank you! As it has been donated by a fellow Share community member and her dance studio at Dance Dimensions in Bolingbrook.

Please look out for this basket along with so many other amazing baskets at the Raffle that takes place at the annual Share. A Walk to Remember on October 10th at the Naperville Riverwalk @ 8:30am before the start of the Remembrance Service.

“Why I Walk”

It has been almost 6 years since we lost our middle daughter, Mara. The wildly magical bridge between being little and a “big-kid”. She would be heading to kindergarten where I’m sure my mama heart would not be ready. I’d be wondering if the tooth fairy was going to make her first visit soon, or if she would finally be ready to ride her bike without training wheels. Instead, we have a constant ache in our heart knowing she’s not here.

On October 20th, 2020, at 38w2d, we said our first “hellos” and simultaneous “goodbyes” to our precious girl. The girl we so desperately wanted to bring home and share with her big sis. Our hearts shattered in ways that only loss parents know and our life changed forever. We lost our daughter. Our girls lost their sister. Our family lost their granddaughter, niece, cousin, and our best friend’s babies, their best friend. We were left with a giant hole in our heart that aches even in the most joyful moments.

Share held our hands and our hearts as we navigated life after loss. This beautiful community helped us learn how to move forward in the big and small moments that, truly, no one can prepare for and made us feel so much less alone.

After a grueling fertility journey and the help of our fairy Godmother of a doctor, we found ourselves expecting again. I don’t know how we would have navigated pregnancy after loss without the wonderful group of loss parents in Sharing Hope. The emotions were bigger than expected and the fear magnified with every appointment.

We welcomed Mara’s baby sister four years ago today! She is sunshine and sugar and everything our dreams are made of. AND there is a massive grief we feel with every birthday we celebrate our girls, knowing we will never know Mara at these special ages or watch her grow into the beautiful, kind human we know she would have been.

This year, after being a stay at home mom for the past 6, I started teaching Mahjong - to share the joy of connection around a table and celebrate the small victories of community and friendships. I am honored and so humbled to be hosting Mahjong for Mara on October 3rd where every donation will be going to Share. It feels full-circle to be able to give back to the community that has continued to help us navigate our life without Mara. Knowing that there will always be families going through this tremendous loss, we want nothing more than to be able to wrap them up in our love and help continue the beautiful work that Share provides.

So, whether you're a seasoned player or picking up the tiles for the first time, come sit with us. Every hand played, every ticket purchased, helps another family feel a little less alone.

Fundraising Friday!!

Share. A Walk to Remember is an annual event hosted to honor and remember babies who we have lost too soon. Simultaneously, it serves as an our largest platform to raise money to support the outreach and operations of the Share Program at the Endeavor Edward and Elmhurst Memorial Hospitals.

We would like to highlight some of the efforts the Walk Committee already has in motion, building up to October 10th!

The Raffle Committee is working hard to introduce a new activity:

🌳 The Gift Card Tree!

If we collect enough donations to build this initiative, we are excited to be able to “branch off” of our traditional Raffle (which will also be incredible this year!) and provide more opportunities to win on October 10th!

“Why I Walk”

We walk in honor of our daughter, Skylar Jane. On May 29th, 2024, we lost our sweet girl due to preterm labor at just 20 weeks and 4 days. It will forever be the worst day of my life. In the very beginning it was hard to cope with such an unimaginable loss. About a month after we lost her, I found SHARE and attended my first support group. We always say it's a club no one wants to be apart of but glad to be there to be in a space with others who unfortunately get it.

We attended our first walk last year and it's a beautiful space to remember our daughter with our loved ones. Skylar's little sister joined us too and it's an outlet for her too as she never met her sister. I can go on and on about the things we DON'T get to do with our sweet Skylar, but THIS we do get to do. We get to spend a day remembering our sweet girl with others who are doing the same thing. We get to give back to the organization that helped us and so many other families honor the little babies gone way too soon. We get to hear Skylar's name read out loud along with all the other babies. We get to have opportunities to donate in memory of our babies. And that's why I walk.

Grief is love with no place to go, but on this day we can let our love pour on out and have a place to go.

“Why I Walk”

My husband Thomas and I walk in remembrance of our daughter. We attended our first walk in 2025 following the loss of baby girl Lachat in October of 2024. We learned that we were expecting in early August, heard our girl’s heartbeat for the first time on September 9th, and 42 days later we were informed she no longer had one.
Although our time with our daughter was short, her impact was huge. Throughout my pregnancy, I had some serious health issues and ended up admitted to the hospital multiple times. Throughout this scary time for our family, the thing that kept us going was the constant news that “the baby is ok”. When we were told our daughter no longer had a heartbeat, we lost more than a child; we lost our hope.
We walk with our family and friends to honor our daughter and all of the milestones we wish we could be celebrating with her.
We walk alongside all the Share families and friends we have made along the way throughout our ongoing grief journey.
We walk because love remains, that hope we lost is restored through hearing their names, and being recognized as baby girl Lachat’s Mom and Dad is a privilege that we never take for granted.
