Seeing a career is different from seeing yourself in it.

Chloe Castañeda grew up working beside her grandfather in his vineyard. She knew the vines, but she wanted to know what happens after harvest.

This summer, through the Patrick Foley FIELDS OF OPPORTUNITY Summer Mentor Program, Chloe was paired with Sierra Zeiter, assistant w**emaker at Foley Johnson W**ery . Sierra showed her the science of w**emaking and how her vineyard experience could lead to a career beyond the vines.

20 years in the vineyard. 5 days at Berkeley. 150 people to lead.

Meet Alfonso Solorio, Operations Manager at Bianco W**egrowing.

He already had the experience. The talent. The leadership. What he never had was a seat in a university classroom.

Like many of the 21 vineyard professionals in our inaugural CULTIVAR360 Leadership Academy, Alfonso had never set foot on a college campus. This year, he spent five days at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, receiving the kind of executive education typically available to corporate leaders
“To experience a university program like this is a dream come true.”

And he brought that experience home to the 150 people he leads.
Talent was never the barrier. Access to opportunity was.

Les presentamos a Alfonso Solorio, gerente de operaciones de Bianco W**egrowing.

Él ya tenía la experiencia. El talento. El liderazgo. Lo que nunca había tenido era un lugar en un salón de clases de una universidad.

Como muchos de los 21 profesionales del viñedo en la primera generación de nuestra Academia de Liderazgo CULTIVAR360, Alfonso nunca había pisado una universidad. Este año pasó cinco días en la Escuela de Negocios Haas de UC Berkeley. Ahí recibió el mismo tipo de formación que normalmente reciben los líderes de grandes empresas.

"Vivir un programa universitario como este es un sueño hecho realidad."

Y llevó todo lo aprendido de regreso a las 150 personas que dirige.

Over the past 15 years, Napa Valley's w**e industry has evolved, and so has its workforce. More farmworker families have put down roots and built their lives here. Strong leaders come from strong families.

This week, we're highlighting Family & Community, one of our five pillars.

Meet Ana

Ana Ortega is the daughter of farmworker parents and the first in her family to continue her education beyond elementary school.

As a high school student, Ana joined the Patrick Foley FIELDS OF OPPORTUNITY: Summer Mentor Program, where she discovered an interest in viticulture and new possibilities for her future.

She kept going.

In 2024, Ana received our El Futuro Educational Scholarship and went on to study Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis.

Her journey began with a family that believed in education, a program that helped her see what was possible, and a community willing to invest in her future.

En los últimos 15 años, la industria del vino en el Valle de Napa ha cambiado, y también las personas que trabajan en ella. Más familias de trabajadores del campo han echado raíces y han construido su vida aquí. Los líderes fuertes vienen de familias fuertes.

Ana Ortega es hija de padres trabajadores del campo y es la primera de su familia en seguir estudiando después de la primaria.

Cuando estaba en la preparatoria, Ana participó en el Programa de Mentores de Verano Patrick Foley FIELDS OF OPPORTUNITY. Ahí descubrió su interés por la viticultura y vio nuevas posibilidades para su futuro.

Y siguió adelante.

En 2024, Ana recibió nuestra Beca Educativa El Futuro y ahora estudia Viticultura y Enología en UC Davis.

Su camino empezó con una familia que creyó en la educación, un programa que le ayudó a ver lo que era posible y una comunidad dispuesta a invertir en su futuro.

La cosecha 2026 en Napa Valley está por terminar :grapes:

Gracias a los trabajadores del campo que hacen posible el vino de Napa Valley, y a Michael Silacci y al increíble personal de Opus One W**ery por abrirnos sus puertas para vivir la cosecha de cerca, desde el trabajo nocturno en el viñedo hasta las barricas. Cada paso requiere talento y todo empieza en el viñedo.

Termina la temporada, pero no el aprendizaje. Los trabajadores del campo siguen creciendo. Las clases de otoño y CULTIVAR 2026 son sin costo para trabajadores del campo del condado de Napa.

Literacy is where every opportunity begins.

At her class graduation, Claudia stood at the podium and addressed her classmates, teachers, and employers in English. And she kept going: in 2025, she was named the Foundation's Scholar of the Year.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're highlighting Adult Literacy, one of our five educational pillars. English is the #1 class farmworkers ask us for, and our English Literacy program gives them the skills and confidence to step into new responsibilities.

For 15 years, we have worked alongside Napa Valley’s vineyard workforce and their families to create opportunities to learn, lead, advance, and create strong futures.

We’ve seen what that opportunity can mean: greater confidence, new skills, career advancement, stronger families, and new possibilities for the next generation.

Our 15th anniversary celebrates how far we have come together—and reminds us how much opportunity still lies ahead.

Vineyard work takes real skill — and CULTIVAR 2026 is built to sharpen it. Leadership training, hands-on safety courses, and practical vineyard knowledge, complimentary and in Spanish, for the Napa County farmworkers who know these hills best.

New this year: a Bird Box Building Workshop, thanks to our partners at Wild Farm Alliance — build a nest box, take it home, install it in the vineyard, and put biodiversity to work for healthier harvests.
