We were thrilled on Friday morning to host hundreds of community supporters at our 19th annual Journey Home Breakfast. During the 60-minute program, we screened our special Journey Home Video - which features seven Abode clients sharing stories of their personal journeys from homelessness into a home. We thank everyone who attended the breakfast!

Scott Fournier, Chris Packer, and Michael Maffei from Toast, Inc. delivered sandwiches and all the fixings from Loveski Deli in Napa to the South Napa Shelter and Day Center, feeding 60 people with a delicious, nutritious lunch. Huge thanks to Toast, Inc. and Loveski Deli for your generosity!

Our Celebration of Life ceremony on Wednesday recognized those in Napa County who have died while experiencing homelessness. The special 90-minute event was a solemn reminder that the human cost of homelessness is too high, and far too many people in our community are suffering. We must ensure that they are not left behind.

Kudos to our colleague Wendi Moore, whose great op-ed column explains how Napa Farmers Market and community members support the Shopping for the Shelter program, in which local restaurants and chefs provide nutritious daily meals to Abode Services participants in Napa. Everyone involved in the program works together to ease food insecurity and provide nourishment to those experiencing homelessness.

Kudos to Karla Knapp & Daniel Coles who - as Jennifer Huffman reported Sunday in the Napa Valley Register - experienced homelessness before working with Abode to gain their own housing in Napa. “I can go back to being my normal self,” Knapp said. “I feel safe here. I feel like I’m going to get rooted again...It’s great.”

Coles added: “I don’t know how to describe it. I just can’t believe I have a place now.”

These two Napans were homeless for years. Now they have their own studio apartments.

Abode Services staff in Napa attended the recent groundbreaking ceremony for Heritage House & Valle Verde Apartments, which will bring 90 units of permanent supportive housing to the Napa Valley. We are excited at the prospect of moving some of our participants into stable housing when construction is finished!
