🇰🇷 As a brief follow-up to the previous post, this past May the 2026 Overseas Korean Adoptee Gathering brought together Korean adoptees and adoptee organization leaders from around the world in Korea.

Hosted by the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA), the event focused on connection, shared experiences, and advocacy for the global Korean adoptee community, including discussions on policy recommendations to present to the Korean government.

🇰🇷🌎 **Important Updates Impacting the Global Korean Adoptee Community**

In May, AKASF participated in the Overseas Korean Adoptee Gathering (OKAG), a five-day conference in Korea that brought together 95 Korean adoptees, advocates, speakers, and community leaders representing 22 organizations across 11 countries.

A major focus of the gathering was identifying shared priorities across the global Korean adoptee community. Through collaborative discussions and working sessions, adoptee leaders and speakers developed a collective policy recommendation document that was formally presented to representatives of the Korean government.

Three key priorities were unanimously identified:

• Increased and more flexible funding for overseas adoptee organizations
• Creation of a Korean Adoptee Community Center in Korea
• Future support and programming for descendants of Korean adoptees (DoKADs)

These recommendations reflect a shared vision for strengthening adoptee-led organizations, expanding resources, and building long-term support for Korean adoptees and future generations.

The final policy recommendation document is attached for anyone interested in learning more. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i0VygjZAs5hvGeTEtOqFxYGQoX_Ptkih/view?usp=sharing

We will continue to share updates as they become available and keep our community informed of any future developments.

A little late on this post, but what an incredible experience the 2026 Overseas Korean Adoptees Gathering was.

For one week, nearly 100 Korean adoptees from around the world gathered in Korea to learn, connect, and share our stories. It truly felt like the United Nations of KADs—different countries and perspectives, yet so many shared experiences.

I left feeling inspired, empowered, and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a remarkable gathering. The conversations, friendships, and sense of belonging are something I’ll carry with me for a long time.

A heartfelt thank you to the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA) for bringing us together and making this experience possible.

🇰🇷❤️

⛳️ Birdies, bites, and a little friendly competition.

We traded our usual dinner meetup for mini golf and lite bites . Good weather, good company, and plenty of laughs between shots was exactly what this event was about!☀️😄⛳️

We loved seeing our DoKADs join in on the fun—they brought an extra spark to the afternoon and made the gathering feel even more special. ☀️💚

We’re especially grateful to those who traveled from afar and to the new members who joined us for the first time. It’s truly our pleasure to create opportunities for adoptees and their families to come together, connect, and make new memories.

See you at the next gathering! ✨

Cinema, conversation, and a whole lot of heart 🎬✨💛

Yesterday we had the pleasure of gathering for an afternoon of cinema and conversation in support of KAD community member and filmmaker Dahee Kim, whose short film, “Rehearsal for an Encounter”, was selected as part of the San Francisco International Film Festival’s “Shapes of Love” shorts program, screening at the Marina Theatre 🎭

, congratulations again 👏💛 we’re so proud to celebrate you and your work with our community.

And to everyone who showed up—thank you for bringing your presence, energy, and support. From the screening to dinner at Little Original Joe’s 🍝🍷, it was a fun-filled afternoon and evening sharing art, stories, and connection.

More of this, always 🫶
