US Uncut Napa Valley We got the shafted with the bill... and they're cutting our government services. We, the People, say "You Caused This Crisis. Now YOU Pay."

We are the Napa Valley Chapter of US Uncut (http://www.facebook.com/usauncut) which describes itself as follows:

In the US, Corporate Billionaires got bonuses, bailouts, and tax breaks too. (Inspired by UK Uncut across the pond as described in the Nation magazine)

We got the shafted with the bill... and they're cutting our government services. It's time we take our government back. It's time corporate billionaires pay their fair share.

Oh my! And to think that all my conservative friends have been saying that we have the highest corporate tax rates in the world.

Apparently they are conveniently "confusing" our statutory rates with the effective rates that most of these "multinationals" are paying... or not... such as the case may be.

As https://www.facebook.com/werenotbroke clearly has shown, this is like describing apples (no pun intended) when you are actually talking about oranges, my conservative friends. So let's just try being honest about the facts here for a change and start actually describing oranges when we are talking about oranges.

Apple serves as a window on how technology giants have taken advantage of tax codes written for an industrial age and ill suited to today’s digital economy.

Would someone please tell me again why all of this "austerity" is necessary?

Oh... I remember now... It's because corporations need tax breaks to "spur investment."

How's that been workin' for us?

"U.S. companies are booking higher profits than ever. But the number crunchers in Washington are puzzling over a phenomenon that has just come into view: Corporate tax receipts as a share of profits are at their lowest level in at least 40 years.

Total corporate federal taxes paid fell to 12.1% of profits earned from activities within the U.S. in fiscal 2011, which ended Sept. 30, according to the Congressional Budget Office. That's the lowest level since at least 1972. And well below the 25.6% companies paid on average from 1987 to 2008."

Total corporate federal taxes paid fell to 12.1% of U.S. profits in the government's latest fiscal year, the lowest level since at least 1972 and well below usual rates of around 25%. Most of the credit--or blame--goes to a temporary break to spur investment.

OMG, people! If the billionaire founder of Paychex Incorporated "wants to vomit when he hears about paying his 'fair share' [of taxes]," I just don't know how much more we can expect these long-suffering billionaires to take from us 99%ers...

Well thank gawd for that...

Now that the GOP has successfully knocked down the idea that it is all about protecting the interests of the 1%, we can all go home.

I swear to you, this is not from The Onion; it came right off the pages of the New York Times...

Under a Republican bill scheduled to be voted on as early as Tuesday, Americans with income over $1 million would no longer be eligible for food stamps or jobless pay.

Don't forget that tomorrow is "officially" Move Your Money Day! If you haven't already moved your money out of one of the big banks to a local bank or credit union, why not take a few minutes to do that tomorrow. And don't forget to tell them WHY YOU ARE CLOSING YOUR ACCOUNT when you close it. :)

Wanna ride into Oakland with us this afternoon? DETAILS HERE!

As Oakland has become an epicenter for the Wall Street movement, demonstrators in other cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia are planning to hold solidarity actions today. But for more local sympathetic workers unable or unwilling to strike, the plan is to assemble at Frank Ogawa Plaza at 5 pm and march to the Oakland Port, the fifth busiest in the country. And last night, organizers from Occupy Napa voted unanimously to help facilitate transportation to this rally and march for those from the Napa area who wish to be there to show their solidarity and support for the movement.

If you can count yourself among them, please join us today as we assemble at the Northeast corner of the parking lot that serves the South Napa Marketplace shopping center (corner of Soscol and Imola) to board a bus that will be leaving at 3:30 pm sharp this afternoon (returning to our original point of departure at 8:30 PM) to attend that 5:00 pm event.

We will be passing through our actual cost per person of $20 to each rider, payable prior to our departure. Seats will be allocated first to those who have made advanced reservations and thereafter on a first come, first served basis. To reserve a seat in advance, please contact Joanne Gifford by email at [email protected] or by telephone at (707) 758-1699.

As there is a good chance that we will run out of seats on the bus, we will also be setting up supplemental car pools this afternoon, as well. Therefore, drivers and those seeking to ride along with others to this event should also join us at that same location between 3:00 and 3:30 pm today to make additional ride-sharing arrangements in connection with this action.
