What a great weekend of Wilderness First Aid training!

As members of Search and Rescue, staying current on our medical skills is an important part of being prepared to help others when they need us most. This hands-on course challenged us with realistic scenarios, patient assessments, injury management, splinting, and decision-making in remote environments where help may be hours away.

The training was interactive, educational, and a lot of fun. Every exercise helped build confidence and reinforced the importance of teamwork, communication, and preparedness in the field.

A huge thank you to the instructors and everyone who participated. We learned a lot, shared plenty of laughs, and came away with valuable skills that will help us better serve our community.

Day 1 of our 3 day Wilderness First Aid training!

Day 1 BLS certs

As members of Search and Rescue, maintaining our Wilderness First Aid certification is an important part of being prepared for the unexpected. Whether we’re responding to an emergency deep in the backcountry or assisting someone far from immediate medical care, these skills help us provide critical support when it matters most.

This training is always a great experience, hands on, informative, and a lot of fun. It builds confidence, sharpens our skills, and reinforces the importance of staying ready to help others in remote environments.

Looking forward to the next two days of learning and practice!

EXPERIENCE DOESN'T MAKE YOU INVINCIBLE. PREPARATION SAVES LIVES.

As the weather warms up, more people are heading outdoors to enjoy our beautiful trails and wilderness areas. Whether you're a first-time hiker or you've been exploring for decades, the basics still matter.

Before you leave home, ask yourself:

✅ Is my phone fully charged?✅ Do I have a backup battery pack?✅ Have I told someone where I'm going and when I'll return?✅ Do I have more water than I think I'll need?✅ Did I check the weather forecast?✅ Do I have layers for changing conditions?✅ Do I have a map or navigation tool?✅ Do I have a flashlight or headlamp?✅ Do I have basic first aid supplies?✅ Am I physically prepared for the route I've chosen?

Remember:• Stay on marked trails.• Turn around if conditions become unsafe.• Don't push beyond your abilities.• Start early and allow extra time.• Know that weather, terrain, and daylight can change quickly.

Many search and rescue incidents happen because of small decisions that add up. A little preparation can prevent a long night—or worse.

Enjoy the outdoors. Explore responsibly. Come home safely.

Today we remember the ones who never made it home.

As members of Search and Rescue, we answer calls on people’s worst days. We search through darkness, rough terrain, exhaustion, fear, and uncertainty all in the hope of bringing someone back to the people who love them.

Memorial Day carries a different weight when you understand sacrifice.
It’s more than a long weekend. It’s a reminder that freedom has always come at a cost paid by people willing to serve something bigger than themselves.

Today we honor the fallen, the men and women who gave their lives in service to others. Their courage, selflessness, and commitment are not forgotten.

And for those of us who serve in our own way now, may we continue to carry that same spirit forward.
To show up when called.
To help when others cannot.
To stand beside our communities in moments that matter most.

Never forgotten. 🇺🇸

MISSING 16-YEAR-OLD; Lake County, California 05/21/26

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing at-risk juvenile who was last seen leaving school in Middletown on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, 16-year-old Dreama Ann Rogers-McKenney, who goes by “Dre,” was last seen leaving Middletown High School on May 21, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., before lunch had ended.

Dreama is described as approximately 5-foot-3 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds, with brown hair. Authorities noted that their hair is currently brown and not red as shown in the attached photo released by law enforcement.

They were last seen wearing black or dark gray sweatpants, a white hoodie, black shoes — possibly Converse or Vans — and a red hat with a large logo. Dreama was also carrying a black backpack.

Investigators said information received indicates Dreama may be traveling toward the Cobb area and could possibly be traveling by bus to either Sacramento or Santa Rosa.

The Sheriff’s Office said Dreama is considered at risk due to concerns for their health.

Anyone with information regarding Dreama’s whereabouts is asked to contact Lake County Dispatch at (707) 263-2690.

Training Beyond the Search

SAR training last night focused on vehicle and trailer operations, backing up trucks, hitching and unhitching trailers, loading gear, and safely moving our vehicles around.

These might seem like small skills, but during an emergency they become incredibly important. Being able to move equipment quickly and safely is a huge asset to any team. Really cool to see so many people signed up to get certified and continue learning. Grateful for the training and the teamwork. 💪

Now that everyone is home, cleaned up, and catching their breath after the weekend, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on what an incredible helicopter training this was.

This training is always one of the most unique and eye-opening experiences we get as a Search and Rescue team. It puts us into situations that most people will never experience, challenges us in ways that are hard to recreate anywhere else, and reminds us why training like this matters so much.

We’re extremely grateful to Mendocino County for continuing to put this on for us and for the many other SAR teams that get the opportunity to participate. The experience, teamwork, and lessons that come out of these weekends are invaluable.

Huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. 🚁

Day 1 of helicopter training is in the books! Such an exciting experience and so much to learn right from the start. It’s amazing getting the opportunity to train, build new skills, and work alongside such a great group of people. Looking forward to the rest of the training, the challenges ahead, and all the knowledge still to come!
