A Safe Place strengthens the Nantucket community by supporting & empowering adults & children impacted by domestic & sexual violence & abuse, while also leading education, awareness, & prevention efforts. Services at A Safe Place are confidential and are available without regard to race, color, immigration status, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. Domestic Violence

Community Based Services: Our advocates are available day and night to answer calls to our 24-hour hotline, respond in person to assist with restraining orders in court or at the police station, and provide support as requested in crises at the Cottage Hospital. Depending on the needs of the client, our services range from a listening ear to basic needs items such as food and clothing. In extremely high risk situations, we make available emergency “safe home” while plans are being made to leave the island. Individual and group counseling are important components of this program. Sexual Assault Prevention & Survivor Services: Trained Rape Crisis Counselors (RCC) are available day and night to provide information, support and options via our 24-hour hotline (508-228-2111) whether the assault occurred recently or long ago. For those who take the courageous step of undergoing a forensic evidence collection exam, “rape kit”, an RCC will provide in-person support and advocacy at the hospital. In the aftermath, our caring and knowledgeable staff will provide on-going support and counseling to the survivor and/or their friends and family. Should the survivor wish to press civil or criminal charges, our staff will continue to provide help and support every step of the way. Supervised Visitation Center: The overarching goal of our Visitation Program is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for children to maintain a relationship with both parents while attempting to insulate them from the conflict between parents.
*Supervised Visits allow non-custodial parents to visit and play with their child(ren) in our comfortable living room. The entire visit is monitored by trained staff and on-site security.
*Neutral Exchange allows for a smooth transition between
parents when a restraining order or other reason prevents direct exchange of children. Child Witness to Violence Program: The immediate and long term effects of witnessing violence in the home are well documented. Through our Child Witness to Violence Program, we work to mitigate the damage by providing therapeutic support to children and their non-offending family member(s) which consists of a combination of individual and family sessions, depending on the age of the child. Education and parenting support are important components of this program which also includes periodic support groups for youth and parents. Description

A Safe Place is proud to sponsor special guest MILCK at New Moon Fest 2026!

New (Nantucket Empowering Women) Moon Fest, a signature event of Nantucket Community Television, is a place where women’s voices rise in reclamation – through film, connection, and education.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Sconset Casino.

MILCK is a Billboard chart-topping, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle UK-honored singer-songwriter whose work from the song “Quiet” to “Sisters of Winter” has long explored voice, visibility, and what it means to be heard.

One of the seven films being showcased at this year’s NEW Moon Fest is “I can’t Keep Quiet”, a short documentary that follows MILCK on her healing journey after being silenced by a past of abuse and domestic violence (events that led to the artist writing the song “Quiet”).

As Nantucket’s domestic violence and s*xual assault advocacy and counseling center offering 100% free and confidential services to survivors (including a 24-hour emergency hotline), it’s an important part of our mission to provide education and connection to the island community via collaborations that promote change.

A Safe Place strengthens the Nantucket community by supporting and empowering adults and children impacted by domestic and s*xual violence and abuse, while also leading education, awareness, and prevention efforts.

Our sponsorship of MILCK at this year’s NEW Moon Fest spotlights our commitment to reminding survivors that:

Your story matters.

Your voice matters.

…and you are never alone.

This sponsorship was made possible by The Linda Hoey Community Impact Fund.

May Is National Supervised Visitation Awareness Month and A Safe Place staff is wearing orange as a reminder that every child deserves to be safe.

Did you know that A Safe Place offers a 100% free Supervised Visitation Program within the Nantucket community at 19 Amelia Drive?

When there are concerns for a child’s safety or well-being, we are always here as a resource that allows a child to be able to maintain contact with a parent in a safe environment while issues are being resolved.

A Safe Place celebrates National Supervised Visitation Awareness Month by raising awareness for families and children who need supported supervised visitation services during allegations of abuse, substance abuse, mental health concerns, or Department of Children and Families (DCF) involvement.

While this service is not always free in other towns, A Safe Place is proud to offer this program at no cost within the Nantucket community.

On Wednesday, April 29, millions of people across the world will wear jeans with the purpose of supporting survivors and educating themselves and others about s*xual violence.

Denim Day is a campaign held each year on the last Wednesday of April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court in which a r**e conviction was overturned because the justices determined that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, the survivor must have helped the person who r**ed her remove her jeans (thereby implying consent).

The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

Join us this year in taking a stand against s*xual violence. Wear your denim, post a picture on social media and tag A Safe Place for .

A Safe Place invites you to join us on Thursday, April 30, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at 19 Amelia Drive for the What Were You Wearing showcase.

This international survivor art installation pushes back against r**e myths.

By displaying survivor stories along with their clothing, this exhibit shows that what someone is wearing never equates to consent.

We hope to see you for this free showcase for change.
