The results of our Madaket Density Study are now available for viewing.
The main topic was to compare:
* Maximum possible density in Madaket with today's zoning bylaws and the Board of Health septic system regulation (10K sq ft per bedroom)
* Maximum possible density in Madaket with today's zoning bylaws and sewer (this eliminates the Board of Health regulation)

We just learned from Peter the young man at the Bartlett truck at Millie’s that they will be stopping the service after tomorrow because it is not a money maker for them.
Maybe the Madaket and Smiths Point residents that frequent the truck call Bartletts, maybe we could get them back at least a few days a week.

Walter Barrett Pier upgrade

Work is underway to repair the Walter S. Barrett Pier in Madaket, and perhaps it is only fitting that members of the Barrett family are tasked with its restoration.

In 1949, Walter Barrett was part of the committee appointed to investigate the feasibility of a public landing there. The committee recommended the landing be located at the foot of F street, that it be of bulkhead design, 20 feet across, with anchorage areas dredged on its three sides. Money was appropriated in 1964 to purchase a strip of land approximately ten feet wide by 100 feet long from the abutter, Everett Chapel, to allow for boat launching at the location as well.

By the 1980s the pier needed repair, and over the next few years, the area was reworked a number of times, including the addition of the concrete boat ramp in 1984.

In 1993, the Board of Selectmen authorized naming the "F" Street Dock in Madaket the Walter S. Barrett Pier by request of the Madaket Conservation Association, in honor of Barrett, who had passed away in March of that year. "Walter was a kind and generous soul who helped many of us when we were in need on land and on the water in Madaket. His years of service to Tuckernuck will also be remembered by many," wrote association president Chris Lewis.

The pier underwent periodic repairs in the early 2000s, but the ramp was abruptly closed in 2012 due to unsafe conditions caused by the deterioration of the concrete slabs at the base of the pier. Delays have plagued planned recent repairs to the structure, most recently the coronavirus pandemic, but finally began this year under the auspices of Barrett Enterprises.
