Heads up if you're headed up to Graham USFS Airstrip (U45)
If possible, please avoid Graham until after it dries out in spring. This will greatly help out in the success of the restoration work that just went into place this past week.
If you absolutely must go, please use proper soft field landing, taxi and takeoff procedures. Please minimize high power with low ground-speed as to minimize erosion and seed disruption. Also, if you must go, inspect and explore utilizing the established grass areas just off the middle of the runway or avoid the north half of the runway. But, this is only a request with recommendations because you as PIC have the ultimate and final decision and authority on your safe operation.
A lot of work was put into smoothing the runway from the parking area to the north end this past week. Some of the filled in low spots may be a little soft and there may be spots of loose soil (

Here's a post from Sally at the Big Creek Lodge!
And that's a wrap! A little misty-eyed as I watched our last guests of the season take off this morning. Shout out to Tom and Denise for being my first and last in- house guests! 🥰
And I'm taking time this afternoon to just reflect on what an amazing season this has been. From the bottom of my heart I want to say "Thank You!" to all of you who support Big Creek Lodge.
Now the clean up begins! This year will be a little different from years past. As you probably know, weve started construction on two new cabins to replace the duplex. Its been a crazy busy summer for all, and we still need to get them across the finish line, so we are bringing in reinforcements to help make that happen!
So.....since I'll be feeding the boys and using up the food supplies anyway....until the October 11th if you happen to wander in from 8 to 11 am, you might just get some breakfast! Keep in mind, food choices will be limited, as will staff- (its just me now!) but it's a last- chance to fly in to Big Creek. The kitchen will be closed on Wednesday the 7th as I have errands to run, but after that the grill will be hot from 8 to 11 and that's it!
I know I've promised a proper recap of this season's highlights and I still plan to deliver that by the time we are at "park brake set- shut down complete"!
