On May 20th, we moved into our brand new Kenya office in Nairobi! Securing this office space was part of the years-long process of Because creating a Kenya entity. And on July 1st, we will officially be operating in Kenya as well as the US. This is SUCH an exciting milestone for Because International. Not just on the business side, but also practically speaking. We now have warehouse space to house thousands of pairs of The Shoe That Grows, a workspace for our Kenya team members and a perfect place for partners, customers and supporters in Kenya to visit face-to-face with a team member!

A great fundraiser idea for packing The Shoe That Grows in your Christmas shoeboxes!

Looking for fun or creative ways to raise funds to buy The Shoe That Grows for your Christmas shoeboxes?? Here’s what one church in New York does each summer:

To raise funds to include The Shoe That Grows in as many of their boxes as possible, Gowanda Assembly of God holds its Christmas in July Barefoot Walk-a-Thon each year. Kids and adults from the church collect pledges and donations to walk barefoot for an hour over grass, dirt and hot sidewalks.

Organizer Mary Habermehl shared, “The Shoe That Grows makes our OCC shoeboxes go further and more powerfully across the oceans, deserts and mountains.”

The Sole, our monthly giving community, exists to support unexpected requests for immediate shoe needs in Kenya and other areas around the world. While we have reliable partners in the country working with schools to get shoes to students in key communities, we often have unexpected requests from schools, homes, groups or individuals for shoes for kids they work with. 100 pairs of The Shoe That Grows were recently distributed at Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi for children with intellectual disabilities and autism. This is the story of one teacher, relentless compassion and how believing in a student combined with material support can create visible, tangible growth.
