The cat den works! I made a bay window and an entrance canopy from an almond milk jug. Not bad for the first one.

Hi there,

It’s been awhile since my last post. I’ve discovered that there is a growing population of stray cats in the Northside. Many have been having litters. This is an issue in our neighborhood that needs to be proactively addressed.

Without thinking about it my kiddos and I have been rescuing stray cats and kittens for a year (five thus far). It’s getting cold outside and outdoor stray shelter boxes are needed to protect them from the elements. While cats form a protective coat that keeps them warm in the winter it is still an option to create a den for them. More specifically for the kittens.

Below is a video of how to create shelters out of totes. Coolers and styrofoam coolers can also be used. I have begun making them and would appreciate any of these containers if you have some to spare.

This kitten was rescued three weeks ago and is now named Mr. Bean. My son adopted him.

This is Eve’s sister “Hallows” that was rescued at the same time. She has bonded with our chihuahua.

We rescued this kitten October 30th, 2021. She is now our kitten aptly named Eve.

Alfie (named by the Humane Society) is an elderly abandoned domesticated cat we rescued. The West Valley Humane Society were amazing and found him a home.

Have you seen the new homes made from shipping containers in Boise? They were created by LEAP Housing Solutions! It is an amazing nonprofit organization that helps displaced refugees, provides low-income housing, and helps people find homes within the Treasure Valley that normally could not afford to do so. LEAP is a Boise-based nonprofit that assists community members in need of affordable housing through innovative, new programs/projects. Our hope is the discovery of solutions for the 8,000+ unit deficit of affordable rentals in Boise.
