Our Heritage Lives On | Nuestra Herencia Sigue Viva

Hispanic Heritage Month may have come to an end, but our pride, culture, and traditions live on every day.

We honor those who came before us, celebrate those making a difference today, and inspire the generations yet to come.

Our heritage is our strength, our identity, and our future. We don't just celebrate it. We live it!

❤️ 365 days of culture, pride, and community.
❤️ 365 días de cultura, orgullo y comunidad.

Today, we honor the history, resilience, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples who have shaped our communities for generations.

At IHF, we recognize that Indigenous heritage is deeply woven into the history and identity of many Latino families. We also honor the Tribal Nations whose ancestral lands we call home and the Indigenous communities who continue to preserve their languages, traditions, and cultural identities.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day is an opportunity not only to reflect on the past but to celebrate the strength, leadership, and living cultures of Indigenous peoples today.

Our histories are connected. Our cultures are rich. Our communities are stronger when every voice is valued.

Remembering El Grito de Yara

On October 10, 1868, El Grito de Yara marked the beginning of Cuba’s Ten Years’ War and a pivotal chapter in the country’s struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule.

The movement began under the leadership of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and became an important part of the history that ultimately led to the end of Spanish colonial rule in Cuba decades later.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Idaho Hispanic Foundation recognizes the many histories and cultures that make up our Hispanic and Latino community—including the rich heritage of Cuban families in Idaho and throughout the United States.

From music, food and literature to entrepreneurship, art and family traditions, Cuban culture has had a lasting influence across generations.

Today, we remember an important moment in Cuban history while celebrating the culture, traditions and resilience of the Cuban people.

¡Que viva Cuba, su cultura y su gente!

What isn’t immediately clear by HJR6, is whether the amendment will end existing exemptions in state law that allow languages other than English to be used by government agencies.

“We see people working very hard to learn English, but learning a language takes time. And someone shouldn’t have to wait until they’re fluent in English to understand critical information — from their child’s school or interacting with local government or understanding information that’s already affecting their family, their health, their safety,” said Mari Ramos, CEO of the Idaho Hispanic Foundation, which helps people learn English and provides other resources.

In the Nov. 3 election, Idaho voters will decide on a state constitutional amendment to declare English as the state’s official language.
