πΊπΈ Honoring Juneteenth: A Legacy of Freedom and Service πΊπΈ
Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that the promise of freedom reached the last enslaved Americans in Texas. This historic moment reminds us that freedom, opportunity, and service are values worth protecting and advancing for every generation.
ποΈ Fun Fact:
More than 2,000 Union soldiers accompanied Major General Gordon Granger to Galveston, Texas, where General Order No. 3 was read, officially informing enslaved people that they were free. The military's role in delivering this message of freedom remains an important chapter in American history.
At the Idaho Veterans Chamber of Commerce, we honor all who have served and recognize the diverse stories, sacrifices, and contributions that strengthen our military and Veteran communities. Juneteenth serves as a reminder that progress happens when communities come together to create opportunities and remove barriers.
Together is Better.
