America in the Park, an extension of Nampa Parade America, was held at Lakeview Park and made a successful inaugural debut. Presented by ICCU, the event featured military and nonprofit organizations, food trucks, and static displays of military vehicles, offering something for attendees of all ages.
The afternoon was filled with outstanding performances by the Canyon County Children’s Chorus, the Spuddy Buddies, and an enthusiastic cheer presentation led by Columbia High School. Award winners from Nampa Parade America were recognized, and custom-made trophies from the parade were displayed for visitors to enjoy.
A moving highlight of the day was a special ceremony conducted by Quilts of Valor, which honored Tom Hogaboam and Katie Rouston with handcrafted quilts. In addition, Comfort Quilts from Grace Bible Church presented and wrapped Mimi Hogaboam and her family in beautiful handmade patriotic quilts.
Children enjoyed a variety of games, while families participated in a historical scavenger hunt celebrating our nation’s heritage and the upcoming 250th anniversary of America.
Special thanks go to Kathy Tanner and Margie Potter for overseeing this wonderful inaugural event. Shirley Shafer provided the stage decorations, creating a festive atmosphere, while Mike Miller, a board member of Nampa Parade America, worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help ensure the event’s success.
The inaugural America in the Park brought the community together in a meaningful celebration of patriotism, service, history, and family, making it a memorable addition to Nampa’s Independence Day festivities.
