We believe the strongest organizations aren't those that avoid crises, they're the ones that learn, adapt, and keep moving forward. We also believe that it's important to make good things come from bad situations.

2025 was a hard year for us and we decided to take those lessons, and share them, so that other small conservation nonprofits might benefit from our experience.

We're grateful to Current Conservation for publishing our article, "Carrying On After a Crisis: Lessons from a Small Conservation Nonprofit." We hope it sparks conversation and encourages others navigating their own difficult paths.

🔥 National Wildland Firefighter Week of Remembrance

This week, we pause to honor the wildland firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Wildland firefighting is more than a job—it's a calling that demands courage, selflessness, and an unwavering commitment to protecting lives, communities, and natural resources. Every time a crew steps onto the fireline, they do so knowing the risks, driven by a desire to serve.

Here in Georgia and across the nation, we remember those who never made it home, stand with the families and crews who carry their memory forward, and thank every wildland firefighter who continues to answer the call.

To our own Georgia Forestry Commission firefighters, our local, state, federal, and volunteer partners, and every member of the wildland fire community: thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your service.

We also encourage you to read this thoughtful reflection from the Southern Group of State Foresters on the importance of remembrance, grief, and supporting the wildland fire community:

One more reason regular controlled burns are important. There are so many little details about the ecosystems in the Southeast and how they evolved with fire.

Thanks to the fire teams for not just fighting the fire and saving the day, but for also doing such great education for us too! 🌲❤️
