Stephen F. Austin State University has officially welcomed its largest first-time undergraduate class ever, with nearly 2,800 new freshmen—a 31% increase over last year. Transfer student enrollment is up 16%, and total enrollment has climbed 7% from Fall 2024.
But this is more than a university success story—it’s a boon for Nacogdoches and our local economy:
• Boost in Spending & Services Demand – More students mean increased demand for retail, restaurants, and entertainment, strengthening businesses across Nacogdoches.
• Higher State Funding – SFA saw a 9% increase in semester credit hours, reaching its highest level since Fall 2020. In Texas, state funding for public universities is driven by credit-hour production.
These extra funds can lead to expanded facilities and services—and spur more local hiring.
• Expanded Pipeline of Talent – With larger incoming classes, Nacogdoches gains more potential employees, interns, researchers, and future graduates who will bolster our workforce.
• Positive Community Momentum – Increased student enrollment enhances the vibrancy of our town by supporting cultural events, boosting civic engagement, and fueling growth for years to come.
Let’s celebrate SFA’s milestone and the bright economic horizon it brings to Nacogdoches!
