Its purpose is both educational and charitable. The Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club is an organization committed to promoting “volunteerism” and to caring for our community through the service and leadership of our members. Its purpose is both educational and charitable with a strong concentration on helping those whose needs may not be met through the more traditional avenues. The club is comprised of
strong women from all walks of life who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to the community in which we live. Fund raising is the club’s main effort. Our annual event is well established on the community social calendar and since 1991 this event has funded local charities, city and county services and programs, area projects and relief to those who suffered in natural disasters. Other income is derived through annual membership dues, our participation in the Carolina Craftsman Show, raffles and Gardens by the Sea - the Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club park at 5400 North Ocean Boulevard where we sell pavers in various dedicated walkways. The club also donates its time to any number of service projects as they present themselves; such as assisting the Miracle League on Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s when they benefit from donations from the public. Monies are allocated to several ongoing club scholarship programs awarded on both the high school and college levels as well as to students of all ages accepted in various special programs. As many as twenty (20) local charities receive both financial and service donations from the club in any given year. And individuals who find themselves in temporarily difficult circumstances, but who
do not meet the qualifications for formal social assistance, are a primary concern when brought to the attention of the club. All aid is focused on and in the City of Myrtle Beach. National emergencies have been exceptions to this rule. No funding is done without a thorough background check substantiated by the club’s Recipient Request Form to satisfy the demands of both the South Carolina Public Charities Division and the Internal Revenue Service. General Club Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month with the exception of June and July when the club rests. Each member is required to attend six (6) of these ten (10) scheduled meetings. Board of Directors Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month, June through August, and are open to all club members who wish to attend. The location and time of these
meetings is published to the membership monthly. Department and Committee Meetings take place on a “need to” basis. Proper protocol is observed at all meetings in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order and mutual respect. Membership. Acceptance in the club begins with a year of Provisional membership which calls for all
the requirements and benefits of Active membership with the exception of the right to vote. A point system is used during a member’s provisional year to encourage active participation in the club as well as the community. To be considered an Active Member in good standing, club members shall be responsible for attendance at general, department and/or committee meetings, payment of annual dues and the fulfillment of all obligations toward fund raising efforts as well as club projects. Associate membership is open to those who have held Active status for a minimum of two (2) years but whose professional careers make it impossible for them to attend meetings during any given year; or who find themselves providentially hindered to fulfill the requirements of Active membership. Associate Members have no obligation to the club other than payment of dues. Honorary membership may be
awarded to those who have made outstanding contributions to the club woman movement. Membership in the Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club is restricted to residents of the Grand Strand and surrounding area.
