It's Board Member Monday! This week, we'd love to introduce you to Anjana Duff, one of our At-Large Board Members!
Anjana was looking for two things when she joined Chicora Rotary: a way to connect with more people in the community and a way to give back. Rotary gave her both! She's now an At-Large Member of our Chicora Rotary Board, and a past club President who led us through 2022.
2022 gave her one of her favorite Rotary memories. Our Waves of the Future event hadn't been held in person for two years because of the pandemic, so when it returned on her watch, the energy that night was electric. The audience and club members were thrilled to be back at a live event, and she loved having the whole club there working together to put on the show. Honestly, though, she'll tell you she enjoys every meeting, seeing the friends she's made and hearing the great programs. To Anjana, Service Above Self means giving back time, talents, or treasures, unconditionally, to help others.
Professionally, Anjana is a travel advisor and the owner of Travel Connection, which is now 19 years old. She loves helping families and friends bond over fabulous travel experiences. And if she walked into every Rotary meeting like a ballplayer, "One Love" by Bob Marley would be playing, a fitting anthem for someone who spends her days bringing people together. Ask her to describe herself, and you'll get friendly, capable, trustworthy. Outside of work, she has no traditional hobbies, but she loves Broadway shows, concerts, and her newest role as a grandmother.
Her favorite places to travel are hard to narrow down. Turks and Caicos tops the list for its clearest water and whitest sand, and she'll happily add just about everywhere in Europe. Locally, she loves Bistro 217 in Pawleys Island when she's up for the drive, and the new Thai Bistro in Carolina Forest for a quick Thai fix. Her bucket list is to visit every continent. She's been to four, another trip is coming in October, and two are left to plan.
If she could have dinner with anyone in history, Anjana would choose her dad, who passed away in 2002. Her advice for anyone wanting to make a difference is to start where you are, in your own inner circle. Helping even one person matters, and from there you can look to your community, where a civic group like Rotary means you don't have to do it alone.
What makes Anjana proudest to be part of Rotary? She's proud to be a Chicora Rotarian, part of a club that serves in so many ways, and part of an international organization changing lives around the world, especially through the global work of eradicating polio and providing clean water.
Join us in celebrating Anjana Duff, our At-Large Board Member! 👏
