For generations of Frederick Countians, Braddock Heights Resort and Amusement Park was the local summer playground. This early-1900s photograph was captured on Jefferson Boulevard as it winds up the mountain to intersect Maryland Avenue at the entrance to Braddock Heights Park. Several "cottages" built by local families are seen clustered along the top of the ridge while on the opposite side, a trolley plies the rails that transported parkgoers to and from the Heights. Trolley service between Frederick and Braddock Heights commenced 130 years ago this summer. In 1906, the branch line seen in this photograph was added linking Braddock Heights to Jefferson.

This historic photograph, recently added to the archives of Heritage Frederick, captures a typical late-19th century scene of a Frederick County family gathered in front of their simple dwelling. What makes this photograph special is the family depicted and their lasting impact on the Middletown community through a business that currently is marking its 110th anniversary.

June 7, 2026. Along Meeting House Road. The Moser Farm (now the Shifflett Farm). I always love driving by this farm on Meeting House Road. First, the barns and other outbuildings always look amazing, especially as you look across the pond in front of the farm. Second, the longhorns always fascinate me, especially after visiting the farm and seeing how friendly they are! In this view I was able to capture the barns, longhorns and pond in the same image. Wildcat Road runs along the tree line in the background and the barns look perfect set against the green forest backdrop.

June 9, 2026, The Gramm Family Farm on Church Hill Road. I first was introduced to this farm during the 2018 Barnstormers event that showcased the barns of Wolfsville. During the COVID era I actually walked the roads around Church Hill and was able to capture more images of the farm from the road. I shot this summer time image of the barns on the property from a vantage point where all of the structures could be seen with all the varied angles of roof lines and walls. The painted stone foundations of the two smaller structures are visible but the stone of the large bank barn is blocked form view. I loved the brick chimney protruding from the roof of the building in teh foreground. These barns with their light yellow paint and green trim always jump out me along Church Hill Road as they are set against the hillside and sky. The amazingly well kept historic stone farm house and barns date back to before the Civil War.
