Hello friends, it's been a minute!

I'm excited to inform you that the city of Muskegon has a crew working on steps for us to access dog beach this summer!

Look for a news story tonight at 10/11 pm on Fox17 on the lack of safe beach access at Kruse Park.

I hope this update will support city efforts to secure funding for the ambitious accessible boardwalk and lookout plans the City of Muskegon shared last year.

This will be our third season without accessible beach access at Kruse Park.

The latest update is that the city has approved plans and is seeking grant funding, and access work will begin Spring of 2023.

You can still access the north end of Dog Beach at The Curve near Beachwood Park. Be sure to park only in marked parking spaces and purchase a parking sticker to avoid getting ticketed. On nice weather days, expect crowds. Pay attention to the behavior of other dogs and use your best judgment to keep your dog safe.

And, as always, carry a couple extra waste bags and pick up after your dog.

This article seems to imply two very important questions about the future of Kruse Park will be decided by input from "the public":

- Will the newly engineered access be handicapped accessible? Or should the city upgrade accessibility at the more congested Pere Marquette Park instead?

- Will the city re-open dog beach?

Many seniors and families with wagons and strollers also enjoyed the accessible ramp at Kruse Park. Many traveled a great distance to enjoy dog beach.

The city must not make these two important decisions based solely on input gathered at a poorly attended meeting two weeks before Christmas during a pandemic!

Please let the city of Muskegon know where you stand.

We invite you to come to City Hall from 4-5:30 pm to review a few options that have been put together. Vote on your favorite plan and leave any additional feedback.

If you are unable to join us in person, please email Leo Evans and Milo Root or call our Department of Public Works.

The city of Muskegon would like your input on plans for restoring access to Kruse Park beach. Be aware that some are seeing this as an opportunity to petition against dog beach.

This week a friend lost a black cane similar to this one down by the water filtration plant. If you come across it, please message Kim McDaniel. Kim has hindered mobility, and relies on this cane to help her get around.

It's official. Muskegon Dog Beach is closed until further notice due to extreme erosion.

It's official. Muskegon Dog Beach is closed until further notice due to extreme erosion.

Due to erosion, Kruse Park Dog Beach is closed. The park is open but the boardwalk down to the beach has been removed.

05/30/2020

Before traveling to Dog Beach, be aware: record lake levels mean poor beach conditions. The access stairs at Kruse Park are closed as the bottom steps were washed away by high water. There is no parking on Beach St. due to erosion. If you park at Beachwood Park and walk you will encounter a steep bluff and little to no beach area for dogs to run.
