2/1: We are having issues on trail 19 to Hart with riders leaving the trail and driving through caution tape to run over one of our landowners pine seedlings. Please keep on the trail before we lose our lease and the trail gets shut down! Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent! Patrols will be picked up out in this area! Please ride right, ride safe, and stay in the trails!

Please be careful of ditches, had to rescue 1 sledder in Muskegon area. There was 3 ft of water under the snow that the rider got stuck in and fell off sled. No one was hurt. Rider and groomer operator got a little wet getting sled out in these negative temps.

What It Means to Be a Groomer for the Grand Marais Sno-Trails Association

Being a groomer is more than a job—it’s a commitment to community, safety, and the love of snowmobiling.

Our groomers are compensated at $2 per mile groomed, but the reality behind that number tells a much bigger story. Depending on the trail, a single grooming route can take 8 to 10 hours to complete. That time can vary due to necessary stops—clearing debris, addressing unexpected issues, carefully exiting the groomer when needed, and slowing or stopping entirely as snowmobilers pass by.

Grooming equipment moves at a steady 7 to 11 miles per hour, requiring patience, focus, and long hours in often challenging conditions.

While this is technically a paid position, our groomers do this work for something far more meaningful: their love of the sport and their dedication to our community. They balance grooming with full-time jobs, families, and personal commitments—choosing to sacrifice their time so the Crazy 8’s trails remain safe, rideable, and enjoyable for all of us.

Today, let’s take a moment to truly thank our groomers for the countless unseen hours they put in behind the scenes. ❄️

Trails are awesome!! Enjoy everyone
