* IMPORTANT NOTE: The Michigan Lifeline Eligibility Database (MLED) should only be used to verify the Lifeline eligibility for current Lifeline customers who were enrolled in Lifeline before January 1st, 2020 and only confirms Michigan eligibility pursuant to Section 316(5)of the Michigan Telecommunitactions Act for Michigan reduced rates. The National Verifier website must be used for federal Lifeline purposes.
MLED verifies a consumer's eligibility for the Lifeline telephone assistance program by confirming the consumer's current participation in the following programs:
Medicaid
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) - Food Assistance
Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) aka Family Independence Program
The State Emergency Relief (SER) and Home Heating Credit (HHC) portions of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
To check eligibility, you must enter the consumer's first name, last name, birthdate, and last 4 digits of their social security number. The first and last name entered must be an exact match to the first and last name in our database to receive a positive result.
If the consumer participates in one of these programs, the database result will be 'Eligible'. If the consumer does not participate in one of these programs, the database result will be 'Not Eligible'.
NOTE: If the results indicate that the consumer does not participate in any of the programs above, but the consumer insists that they do participate, the consumer will need to provide documentation of either
participation in one of the programs, or
income eligibility.
Also note that, in Michigan, income eligibility is at or below 150% of the federal poverty level for current Lifeline customers enrolled prior to January 1st, 2020.
This database does NOT search for participation in the following programs:
Federal Public Housing Assistance/Section 8
National School Lunch Program’s free lunch program
Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) portion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
If a consumer participates in Federal Public Housing Assistance/Section 8, the National School Lunch Program’s free lunch program, or the Weatherization Assistance Program of LIHEAP and does not participate in any of the other programs included in our database, then they will need to provide documentation of either
participation in this program, or
income eligibility.
