Toward Strengthened Regulation of the Organic and Organo-Mineral Fertilizer Market in Niger.

On August 27, Niger’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock organized a workshop in Niamey that is crucial for the country’s agricultural future.

The approval of supplementary regulations governing:
☑️ The marketing of organic fertilizers;
☑️ The marketing of organo-mineral fertilizers;
☑️ The production of organic, mineral, and organo-mineral fertilizers.

These regulatory texts represent a decisive step toward ensuring the quality of locally produced fertilizers, structuring the local supply chain, and promoting sustainable soil fertility management.

In alignment with regional regulations and in partnership with key stakeholders such as , Niger is strengthening its regulatory framework to support farmers.

The IFDC team had an excellent first day at the 2026 Africa Food Systems Forum!

Our Chief Operating Officer, Bayella Thiam, represented IFDC by giving the opening keynote speech at CGIAR's side event, "Fertilizer Crisis: Solutions for Africa." During his address, Bayella shared, "Resilience is built before disruption."

Executive Director of Sustain Africa, Sheila Komen Keino, also spoke at the event, highlighting three key pillars of resilience: speed, data, and coordination.

We had an amazing time meeting with partners, changemakers, and leaders to discuss how to innovate soil and fertilizer solutions to nourish people and protect the planet.

Toward a National Strategy for the Development of Agroecology in Niger!

Niger is taking another step toward more sustainable, resilient agriculture that respects natural resources.

On August 26 in Niamey, the , alongside the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, participated in the national workshop to validate the document outlining the National Strategy for the Development of Agroecology in Niger (SANDAN).

Developed in December 2025 at the initiative of the Soil Values program, this strategy aims to strengthen the coordination of actions in support of agroecology, foster partnerships and synergies among stakeholders, and contribute to a more sustainable future for Niger’s agricultural sector.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders around a shared goal: to review, refine, and validate a strategic vision for the development of agroecology in Niger.

Promoting agroecology means investing in:
✅ The resilience of local communities
✅ The conservation of natural resources
✅ Food and nutritional sovereignty
✅ The future of coming generations.

Together, let’s build a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agricultural sector in Niger!
