Muscle Shoals Amateur Radio Club (MSARC) will conduct its annual Field Day Exercise June 27-28, 2026, at Gattman Park, located at 901 Gattman Park Dr, Muscle Shoals, AL 35661. The club will set up its equipment on the hill opposite the splash pad and everyone is invited to attend and take part in the various amateur-related activities.
The event is ARRL Field Day (www.arrl.org/FieldDay), an annual amateur radio activity organized since 1933 by ARRL, The National Association for Amateur Radio in the United States. Hams from across North America ordinarily participate in Field Day by establishing temporary ham radio stations in public locations to demonstrate their skill and service.
Their use of radio signals, which reach beyond borders and bring people together while providing essential communication in the service of communities. Think about the recent extreme weather conditions that have been experienced in the Shoals area over the last twelve months. Amateur radio can help provide communications when normal means of contact (i.e., cell phones, land lines, internet connections) are down. Amateur radio will always be there!
There will even be an opportunity for first-time amateur radio operators to get on the air, either through voice or digital modes. The club also offers the chance for folks who have never been on the air to give it a tryโa licensed amateur radio coach will be on hand to help walk one through the processโwho knows? One could very possibly contact other hams located in another state, or even in another country! The possibilities are endless.
