is a non-profit agency offering employment training and community living assistance. Muscatine loves its coffee and delicious food, and the team at Laura's Landing works hard to make every visit a great experience!

One of the people helping make that happen behind the scenes is Alexia!

As part of the Laura's Landing team, Alexia contributes to the daily work that keeps things running smoothly and helps create the experience customers have come to enjoy.

Through Crossroads' Supported Employment program, individuals like Alexia have opportunities to bring their skills and talents to local businesses while receiving individualized support to succeed in the workplace.

And businesses benefit, too! Inclusive employment brings new talent to the workforce and helps build strong, connected teams.

During National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we're celebrating Alexia and the important role she plays at Laura's Landing.

Day Hab spent a beautiful day helping spruce up the landscaping at the Muscatine Senior Center!

Each month, participants volunteer at the Senior Center, helping with cleaning projects, connecting with seniors, and sometimes joining in a friendly game of chair volleyball.

These visits are about so much more than getting a job done. They offer opportunities for participants to contribute to their community, build relationships, practice skills, and experience the joy of helping others.

And after a little hard work, there's nothing better than enjoying fresh popcorn and punch with friends!

🏛️ From Crossroads to Capitol Hill: Advocacy in Action!

At Crossroads, advocacy is more than a core value. It's something our team puts into practice every day, standing alongside the people we support, their families, and our community.

Crossroads Direct Support Professional Josh Lary took that commitment all the way to Washington, D.C.!

Josh joined DSPs from across the country at the ANCOR Policy Summit, connecting with others in the profession and meeting with legislators and their staff on Capitol Hill.

And he had an important message to share.

Josh advocated for two pieces of proposed legislation:

🔹 Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act: Would establish a federal occupational classification for DSPs, allowing better tracking of compensation, vacancies, and turnover to help policymakers understand the challenges facing the profession.

🔹 Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Relief Act: Would provide additional federal funding to strengthen community-based services and support the workforce that makes them possible.

These issues directly affect the people we support, their families, and the DSPs who help make independence, choice, and community inclusion possible every day.

Josh shared that he received appreciation and understanding from the lawmakers and staff he met. But he also knows that meaningful change takes continued advocacy.

We're incredibly proud of Josh for representing Crossroads and bringing the voice of a working DSP to Capitol Hill.

Advocacy happens every day at Crossroads, but Josh's experience shows how those everyday voices can make an impact all the way in Washington.

🌟 Finding Her Place on the Team: Shawna's Story

From the job interview to becoming part of the housekeeping team at The Merrill Hotel, Muscatine, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Shawna's employment journey has been rewarding for both Shawna and her coworkers!

Through Crossroads' Supported Employment program, Shawna has had individualized support along the way, helping her navigate the hiring process, learn her responsibilities, and find her place on the team.

Today, she's part of the crew that helps keep the Merrill Hotel welcoming and ready for guests. And judging by that smile, she's enjoying her work!

That's what successful Supported Employment is all about. Finding the right fit, building relationships, and creating opportunities for people to contribute their talents in the workplace.

It's also a win for employers. Inclusive hiring brings dedicated employees, new perspectives, and opportunities to build stronger teams.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and this year's theme, Celebrating Value and Talent, reminds us that every employee has something valuable to contribute.

More space. More friendships. More opportunities. 💚

The HNI Charitable Foundation has given $200,000 to help Crossroads create our new Day Habilitation home in Muscatine!

This generous gift will help us grow our Muscatine program from approximately 30 participants to as many as 60. Our new facility at 2206 Lucas Street will offer greater accessibility, helping more adults with disabilities participate in activities, practice everyday skills, and connect with others.

As the only provider of Day Habilitation programs in Muscatine and Cedar counties, we know how much these opportunities matter to local individuals and families.
We hope to move in this November! We’ll share a ribbon-cutting date once plans are set with HNI and our other community partners.

📚 There’s Always a Good Reason to Go to the Library.

We love spending time at the Musser Public Library! There are books to discover, plenty of spaces to read or visit with friends, and one of the best views in town.

On a beautiful day, you can look out over the river. When the Iowa weather isn’t cooperating, there’s nothing wrong with finding a comfortable spot inside and escaping into a good story instead.

It’s a welcoming community space with something for everyone, and always a favorite stop for our Day Hab crew.

🎉 Help us celebrate Laura’s 14-year work anniversary 🎉

For 14 years, Laura has dedicated herself to supporting seniors in our community, and it’s hard to imagine our programs at Senior Resources without her.

Laura truly is the heart of Senior Resources. Her patience may be her superpower, but it’s matched by an incredible dedication to helping seniors live the independent lives they deserve. Through the Senior Resources Outreach Program, Laura helps connect seniors and their families with resources, navigate challenges, and find the support they need. She also lends her experience, knowledge, and support across Senior Resources programs, always ready to help wherever she can.

Laura’s compassion for seniors isn’t simply part of her job. It is at the heart of everything she does. We are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of the Crossroads family.

👏 37 Years of Showing Up and Making a Difference.

Earlier this year, we celebrated an incredible employment milestone for Brian: 37 years with Crossroads.

Over nearly four decades, Brian has held several different positions within our organization, but one thing has remained constant: his dedication to his work and the success of Crossroads.

Today, Brian is a member of our Administrative Assistant team. He helps welcome visitors to our building and keeps things running behind the scenes in our offices.
And his impact has gone beyond his own work. Brian has also served as a mentor in our High School Mentor Program, helping students with disabilities see what a future in the workforce can look like.

During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we talk a lot about the value and talent people with disabilities bring to the workplace. Brian's 37-year career also reminds us of something else: dedication, experience, and longevity matter.

Brian has spent 37 years contributing his talents to Crossroads, growing in his career and helping the next generation imagine theirs.

That’s something worth celebrating.

There are plenty of ways to spend an afternoon, but spending it with horses is pretty hard to beat. 🐴

It was a perfect afternoon at Riding for Success - Therapeutic Riding Program, enjoying therapeutic riding and equine activities.

Time with horses can offer some pretty amazing benefits for people with disabilities, including opportunities to work on balance, coordination, confidence, communication, and social skills. But sometimes the benefit is simpler: connecting with an animal and having a really good time doing it.'=

We’re lucky to have Riding for Success right here in Muscatine, making opportunities like this available close to home.
