Kiwanis Annual Peanut Days is coming up fast!

Kiwanis Peanut Days gives members and volunteers the opportunity to share our famous bags of peanuts while accepting donations at locations such as Hy-Vee, McDonald’s, Fareway, and other community sites.

Donations are never required, but they are always appreciated.

All proceeds support local children and youth programs in our community. This year the dates where you may see Kiwanis members and maybe even Key Club members are September 4th-20th Also look for us at the entrance at the Muskie Homecoming Game Friday September 11th!

Our Speaker and guests yesterday were Mike and Karen Hartman and one of their therapy dogs Harvey.

They spoke with us about the difference between a therapy animal, and emotional support animal and a service animal, as well as the work it takes to be a therapy pair (the human and animal have to be a pair)

We also learned the job of a therapy animal and how important they are to not only children but adults too!

Thank you Mike and Karen AND Harvey!

Harvey has a page and you can follow Harvey and his “adventures” Harvey's Pack

Sometimes we have to escape the office to support a good cause. If you are out about today stop by the 2800-blk Mulberry for some Lemonade and cookies. These ladies are working hard.
All proceeds go to Shop with a Cop. They are there until 1pm.

Mr. Michael Gaeta is not only a treasured member of the Muscatine Kiwanis Club but a businessman in our community. Mr. Gaeta works for Prudential Insurance located in the downtown Muscatine area.

Last week, he spoke with us about how the building collapse and the structural issues of the historic buildings down town affect not only people who lost their homes and businesses that had to close, but also businesses that are still able to run.

This week Mike talked to us about what he does, how your financial planning can affect your future and taxes!

Thank you Mike for being a dedicated Member to not only Muscatine Kiwanis Club but to our town and society and sharing your knowledge with us!

The speaker at our August 4th meeting, Gary Strausser, has served in the Iowa District 7 Court system since his appointment as Associate Judge in 2005. He received his Law Degree from Drake University Law School and also earned a Master’s Degree from Drake’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

His presentation covered the evolution, changes and challenges he has seen since his appointment to the bench, his outlook for the future, and answers to a range of questions from our group.

Thank you, Judge Strausser, for visiting the Muscatine Kiwanis Club --- and your years of service to your profession and to our community!

They say not all super hero’s wear capes and we were reminded of that today.

Our guest speaker was Chelsea Harms the owner of The Maynard and Cheers & Graze with Charm also spends a lot of her time volunteering in our community.

Today she spoke of Hair for Hero’s, a volunteer project she started at Jefferson Elementary. During the school year, Chelsea along with other volunteers spend their morning combing, brushing, and even braiding, both boys and girls hair. They also spend time reading jamming out to music and just having conversation.

Hair Hero’s is always looking for volunteers for at max an hour starting about 7:30 am.
Other ways you can help is by donating combs and other hair accessories (Chelsea is happy to connect with anyone to collect donations!) They also have an Amazon wishlist (we are working on getting to share)

What a great program, Thank you Chelsea!
