We partner with people, organizations, and the greater global community to drive policy progress in three issue areas—mitigating climate change, avoiding the use of nuclear weapons, and preventing mass violence and atrocities. The Stanley Center believes that the actions of individuals have impact outside of their immediate sphere of influence and that there exists a collective responsibility of a

ll people to one another, to our planet, and to building a just and sustainable future. While Facebook’s corporate approach stands in contrast to those beliefs, we feel an obligation to maintain a presence on the platform for the greater purpose of connecting with our community and inspiring action consistent with our shared responsibility.

Ms. Howe traveled to Türkiye this summer as part of the 2026 Catherine Miller Explorer Award. On her educational journey, she visited the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the "fairy chimney" rock formations of Cappadocia, the Neolithic settlement site of Çatalhöyük, the travertine terraces of Pamukkale near the ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis, the archaeological site of the ancient city of Troy, and many more unique places. 🇹🇷

We are thrilled to share that "Identity-Based Mass Violence in Urban Contexts: Uncovered" has been recognized with a Gold award from the Nonfiction Book Awards.

The reviewers recognized exactly what our contributors set out to achieve: moving beyond the theory of urban violence to center real, actionable solutions.

Reflecting on the real-world stories featured in the book, one reviewer shared: "These narratives powerfully demonstrate how community interventions and targeted support can break cycles of urban violence and inequality."

This weekend is the premiere of "Barberman: The Alexander Clark Story!" Get your free tickets today and reserve your seat to experience an original full-length play that brings to life the story of the longtime Muscatine resident and early leader in the struggle for equal rights in Iowa. 🎭

Thank you to all who joined us last week for a wonderful conversation with author Jarrett J. Krosoczka for our Global Education event, Inclusive Dialogue: The Things That Shape Our Stories!! Jarrett is an award-winning, New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of the graphic memoir, “Hey, Kiddo."

📖 “Hey, Kiddo” tells Jarrett's personal story of growing up in a multigenerational family impacted by substance abuse and how he finds healing through mentorship.

This year's Inclusive Dialogue was co-organized in partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine, Muscatine Community College, and Musser Public Library!
