We’d like to send out a thank you to 424 Warning Systems for their support of our program. They have graciously decided to sponsor Alex to go to Illinois Fire Service Institute Fire College this year. He will be joining Jackson again this year. Last year they did the Cadet school together and this year will be attending the normal Fire College as they both just turned 18 and graduated! Alex plans to attend WIU this fall and pursue his bachelors in Fire Science! He has stepped up big time in our program as one of the leaders helping other Explorers when they join the unit and will be missed when he is gone! Community support like this is helping make our Explorers career goals come true as they keep training and learning in pursuit of a career in the Fire Service! Thanks again 424! This past weekend th Explorers had some help from our Muscatine Fire Department Blue shift members and were able to get in some rappelling out of our training tower, and practiced tying various knots used on the foreground. This is one of the days our Explorers really look forward to! We also have some exciting news. Stay tuned later this week for more information, but the Explorers have received a match grant for a project they are wanting to complete that would not only help the Explorers but also Muscatine Fire Department members! This past weekend we talked about HazMat scenarios and then did some exercises in our Level A suits. These suits are fully encapsulated providing the highest level of protection against hazardous liquids and gases. The SCBA is worn inside the suit to provide clean breathing air. Explorers did a drill loosing and tightening nuts and bolts to work on their dexterity and fine motor skills. Rumor has it one of the advisors even made it harder by dumping dish soap on their hands and spraying water on their suit 🤷🏼‍♂️

Huge thank you to West Liberty Auto Parts for sponsoring one of our Explorers to go to Illinois Fire Service Institute Fire College this year! With their generosity we are able to send Jackson to IFSI at no cost to himself. Community support like this is what it's all about! It is great to give our Explorers opportunities like this to receive some top-notch training as they pursue their career in the Fire Service.

We'd like you all to meet Jackson Collins. Jackson joined the Muscatine Explorers after attending our 1st ever Midwest Fire Explorer Day with the Bettendorf Fire Explorers. Jacksons dad is now a Captain with MFD and we hope Jackson will be joining the ranks in the future! Jackson like many of high schoolers was unsure what he wanted to do. Over the past few years though he has developed a passion for the fire service and has stepped up to be one of the leaders amongst our group. He is constantly looking for ways to better himself, whether at a training night, or going to external training events. He currently is taking his EMT and has recently applied with the Muscatine Fire Department in hopes of starting off his career in the fire service. We are all so proud of all he has accomplished and continues to accomplish in and outside of our program. Thanks again to Carquest West Liberty Auto Parts for helping further his training.

We are also looking for donations or sponsors as we have at least 2 other Explorers wanting to attend either IFSI's Fire College, or their Cadet/Explorer School this summer. Please contact us at the email above or our Venmo is

Yesterday we had 6 Explorers head to Colona Fire Department in Illinois for a full day of training from Illinois Fire Service Institute instructors. They had multiple stations to rotate through such as SCBA’s, fire apparatus, tools, forcible entry, search & rescue, ladders, and live fire behavior. With the support of the community it allows us to send our Explorers to training like this. We have 2 more going to the IFSI fire college this year, along with some going to the Cadet/Explorer school. If anyone is interested in donating to help cover costs or would like to sponsor one of our Explorers please reach out to us at:

Another awesome opportunity for the youth in Muscatine. While the Police may not be as cool as firefighters, they come in a close second and put together a fun week of training!

The Muscatine Police Department is now accepting applications for the 2026 Junior Police Academy!

In partnership with Muscatine Community College, we’re offering a FREE, hands‑on, week‑long training experience for students ages 14–20. From June 8–12, participants will learn what it takes to become a police officer through activities including SWAT demonstrations, crime scene investigation, K‑9 operations, defensive tactics, medical training, and more.

Lunch is provided daily, and students will have the chance to earn two $500 scholarships.

Space is limited, and preference is given to juniors and seniors.

This past weekend our Explorers practiced mask up drills and a RIT exercise. Being able to quickly and properly put on your gear when you are needed to go inside of a structure is a must needed skill. With a lot of the training we do, we practice using the “crawl, walk, run” method slowly building our skills and confidence. Being able to mask up properly with gloves on saves time when a true emergency strikes! After they became comfortable with that we worked as a RIT team to maneuver through some obstacles to get to a downed firefighter that had fallen through the roof. They then practiced hooking up the RIT pack to give the firefighter more air, and worked on their radio communications to the incident commander. It’s awesome watching this group sharpen their skills and doing the reps!

This weekend our Explorers ran through some Rescue Task Force drills along with some Stop the Bleed training and basic airway skills. We utilized the START (Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment) to help triage patients in a mass casualty incident. We had multiple EMS stations set up, and a drill responding to, packaging, and moving multiple victims to a casualty collection point for further assessment and treatment. For more information on our program please email us at [email protected]

We are also accepting donations to help with our training costs to help keep our program growing!
