Friends of Murrysville Parks

Our Mission:

To protect and restore native flora and fauna in the Municipal parks of Murrysville for everyone to enjoy. With your help, we can.

This is our strategy to continue our mission for the week of June 15th - June 21st, 2026. Our focus is to continue on flowering and seeding invasives. We still want to get Garlic Mustard before the seeds start spreading. Plantain and Smartweed are coming up in many places that need to be removed now also.

Focus this week is going to be on these invasives:

* Garlic Mustard

* Narrow-leaved Bittercress

* Plantain

* Smartweed

* Honeysuckle Vine

* Ground Ivy

* Bush Honeysuckle

* Multiflora Rose

Schedule June 15th – June 21st

* Monday – Funk Bikeway @ Visitor Center (11:00-5:00)

* Tuesday – N/A

* Wednesday – Sumac Trail @ Round Top Rd. (9:00-1:00) & (3:00-7:00)

* Thursday – Trillium Trail @ School Rd. S.(9:00-1:00) & (3:00-7:00)

* Friday – Sumac Trail @ Round Top Rd. (9:00-5:00)

* Saturday –Round Top Trail @ Round Top Rd. (9:00-1:00) & (3:00-7:00)

* Sunday – Heritage Trail @ Visitor Ctr.(9:00-1:00) & (3:00-7:00)

All volunteers, please send your hours to both Pia and me for tracking purposes. I would prefer it if you text or e-mail the hours along with location and work accomplished. If you see anything blocking paths or signs and benches that need repaired, please let us know so we can get someone to take care of the obstacle.

This Saturday, 13 June 2026 at 10:00 Dr. Kyle Selcer and Dan Corall will lead a walk in Townsend Park starting at the upper pavilion.

Invasive Plants will be the topic.

Identification and best practices to remove/eradicate invasives will be discussed. Demonstrations and hands-on activities will be included.

Please join us for this educational and informative walk.

Saturday we have our Invasives Walk with Dr. Kyle Selcer and myself in Townsend Park at 10:00, starting in the upper pavilion.

Come join FOMP in Duff Park this Saturday the 16th of May at 10 am for a May flower walk.

Dr. Kyle Selcer will lead the walk sharing his plant knowledge and identifying plants flowering in May in Duff Park.

Flowering invasives such as Dames Rocket, Multiflora Rose, and Bush Honeysuckle can also be easily removed. Windy weather blows down trees and branches so if you see anything blocking paths please let us know so we can get someone to take care of the obstacle.
