Finding peace on the water. For veterans living with PTSD, constant hypervigilance keeps the nervous system on high alert. The rhythmic motion of fly casting and the soft sensory input of moving river currents trigger a "flow state" giving the brain a chance to reset.

Taking time to learn about and care for our bodies is essential maintenance for living fully and thriving after service.
For years, service members are trained to push through pain and prioritize the mission, often tuning out what their own bodies are telling them. Reconnecting with health education and body literacy is a vital next mission, especially for women veterans navigating the physical and hormonal changes brought on by menopause.
