REINTRODUCING

Tula — a girl learning that life can be safe
Tula came into our care through a situation that, frankly, did not happen the way a responsible rescue intake normally should.
At one point, someone who had been involved with rescue agreed to have Tula brought up from Mexico. She came with our consent to be part of Misfit Ranch, but without the vetting, background information, or committed foster placement that should have been in place before a dog makes that kind of journey. We did not have the history we needed. We didn't know what she had experienced, what she had been exposed to, or what she would need.
But she was here.

And once a dog is in front of us, we don't believe in pointing fingers or looking for someone else to take responsibility.
So Misfit Ranch took responsibility for Tula.
Now we're getting to know the dog underneath all the uncertainty.

Tula is working on something that sounds simple but can be incredibly difficult for a dog who hasn't had the right foundation: learning how to be a dog.

She's learning that people can be trusted.
She's learning that she doesn't have to be on guard all the time.
She's learning what it feels like to have choices.
She's learning how to relax, play, explore, and simply exist without constantly wondering what comes next.

And she's making progress.

But we aren't going to sugarcoat her story to get her adopted.
Tula is not a "plug-and-play" dog. She needs someone who understands that trust is earned, not demanded. Someone who can give her time to decompress and who won't expect an unfamiliar dog to immediately behave like a confident family pet. Her adopter will need patience, consistency, good boundaries, and a willingness to let Tula set the pace while she learns that the world isn't something she has to fear.

We don't know everything about her past—and we won't invent a story to fill in the blanks.

What we do know is that her past doesn't have to determine her future.

Tula deserves the opportunity to have the quiet, predictable life that should have been part of her story from the beginning. She deserves people who will see the scared or uncertain moments not as failures, but as communication. She deserves someone willing to celebrate the little victories: the first time she chooses to come closer, the first deep sigh when she realizes she's safe, the first silly moment when she forgets to be cautious and just is a dog.

And somewhere out there is the person who will understand that those moments are worth waiting for.

Tula is looking for a foster or, even better, a forever home.
We are looking for someone who is patient, emotionally steady, and realistic about the commitment involved in helping a dog build confidence. If you're looking for an instant best friend, Tula probably isn't the dog for you.

But if you have the heart to help a dog discover who she can become, Tula may be exactly the dog you've been looking for.
Misfit didn't create the circumstances that brought Tula here. We didn't have all the information we should have had. But we consented to her coming as part of Misfit, and we accept responsibility for her now.

We're going to do everything we can to give her the chance she deserves.

Now we're looking for someone who will help us finish that job.
Tula is still learning to be brave. She's still learning to trust. And she's waiting for someone patient enough to teach her that being a dog can be a pretty wonderful thing. ❤️

🐾 REGGIE UPDATE!🐾

Remember that scared boy we found alone in a trash pile, unsure of the world and probably wondering if anyone was ever coming for him?

Well… look at him now.

Reggie is HEALED, HAPPY, and FULL OF LOVE—and somehow, this sweet boy is STILL waiting for his forever home.

At about 5 years old, Reggie has discovered that life can actually be pretty wonderful. His favorite place? Right next to his people.** And when he sees someone he loves, he doesn't just wag his tail… his ENTIRE BODY wiggles!

It’s the kind of happiness that makes you stop and think about where he started.

From a terrified dog hiding in a trash pile…
to a happy boy who gets the zoomies of joy when his people walk through the door. ❤

Now all Reggie needs is the one thing he’s been waiting for all along:

A forever family to call his own.

He’s ready. He’s healed. He’s happy. And he has SO much love to give.

Please share Reggie. Maybe his forever person is just one share away. ❤️🐾

We asked Guerros foster her favorite thing about him and this is what she had to say “ He will come and just lay on you like a little toddler, rest his head on your chest, throw an arm across you and cuddle and pass out. The cutest lil guy ❤️”

He’s still looking for his forever home. Located in Murrieta,ca

Why is socialization so important?

Socialization is about teaching your dog how to confidently handle the world around them. And it’s about much more than playing with other dogs.

Take them on walks. Let them experience new sights, sounds and smells. Visit dog-friendly places. Practice riding in the car. Get them comfortable wearing a collar, leash and well-fitting harness. And consistently redirect unwanted behavior so they learn what’s expected.

Walks are especially important because they provide both physical exercise and mental enrichment. All those new smells and surroundings give your dog’s brain a workout while helping reduce boredom, stress and unwanted behaviors.

And remember: the dog park shouldn’t be your first stop with a puppy or new dog. Start slowly in controlled environments and build their confidence. Always make sure your dog is appropriately vaccinated before exposing them to higher-risk areas.

Socialization isn’t about making your dog love every person or every dog.

It’s about helping them become a confident, well-adjusted dog who knows how to navigate the world.

Start early. Go slow. Be consistent. Set your dog up for success.

🚨 EXCUSE ME… HOW DOES BRUCE STILL HAVE ZERO APPLICATIONS?! 🚨

Bruce has been waiting since February 2026. That’s MONTHS of being handsome, hilarious, loyal, and apparently completely overlooked. 😭

This Malinois/Boxer mix is basically the whole package:

🐾 Gets along with other dogs
🚗 LOVES car rides
🏃‍♂️ Enjoys his treadmill like a fitness influencer
🛒 Thinks Home Depot trips are a perfectly acceptable date
🎓 Comes with a LIFETIME OF TRAINING — yes, you read that right!
❤️ And what he really wants? His person.

Bruce isn’t looking for a temporary pit stop. He’s looking for someone who sees him and thinks, “Yep. That’s my dog.”

We honestly don’t understand how he has gotten ZERO applications. Not one. Zilch. Nada.

Meanwhile Bruce is over here like:
I have a resume. I have references. I have training. I even know where the lumber is at Home Depot. WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT?”

It’s time for Bruce’s forever family to find him.

Who’s going to be the one to finally say YES to Bruce?

🐾 WHY DON’T WE WAIVE ADOPTION FEES🐾

Because adoption fees help us save the next dog. ❤️

When a dog is finally adopted, their expenses don’t disappear. They continue long after the dog leaves our care.

EVERY DOG NEEDS:

Medical care & medications
Quality food
Treats & chews
Toys & enrichment
Beds & blankets
Bowls & supplies
Leashes & collars
Unexpected vet visits
Everything they need to feel safe and loved
WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY COST?

Average adoption fee:

$250–$350

Average cost to care for a dog during their first month — BEFORE medical expenses:

$200–$500

And some dogs arrive needing significant medical care.

A dog with special medical needs can cost:

$500–$4,500+ or more depending on their needs

That can include surgeries, diagnostics, medications, dental work, specialist care and ongoing treatment.

SO WHERE DOES THE ADOPTION FEE GO?

It helps create a circle of rescue.

One dog finds a home → their adoption fee helps offset their care → those funds become available to help us say YES to another dog who desperately needs us.

🐾 FOSTERING SAVES LIVES.

ADOPTING SAVES LIVES.

ADOPTION FEES HELP US KEEP SAVING LIVES.

We know adoption fees can feel like an extra expense. But they are an important part of how a small rescue continues to operate and help dogs in need.

Thank you for understanding, supporting rescue, and helping us save the next misfit.

💔 Our long timers are still waiting…

Guerro, Reggie & Bruce have all been with us since February, and somehow they continue to get overlooked.

Months of waiting. Little to no interest. And honestly… we just don’t understand it. These boys deserve to have someone choosing them. 🥺🐾

They’re all located in Murrieta, CA and ready for their forever homes.

If you’ve been thinking about adding a dog to your family, please give these three a second look. And if you can’t adopt, sharing this post could be the thing that finally gets them noticed. ❤️

Let’s get these boys out of the “long timer” club.
