Waccamaw Community Foundation Responds to SNAP Program Suspension — Supporting Local Food Distribution for Those in Need
Murrells Inlet, SC — November 04, 2025 — With the temporary suspension of the federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) funding due to the government shutdown, many local families are facing immediate challenges in putting food on the table. The Waccamaw Community Foundation (WCF) is stepping forward to support nonprofit food providers across the region who are working tirelessly to meet this critical need.
“We know that when a federal program like SNAP is disrupted, it is our local nonprofits who become the first line of help,” said Michael Mancuso, President & CEO of Waccamaw Community Foundation. “Our goal is to make it easy for donors to respond quickly and confidently — ensuring families in the Waccamaw Region don’t go hungry.”
WCF has created an online giving hub at www.waccamawcf.org where donors can contribute in several ways:
- Give directly to trusted local food distribution nonprofits through links to their websites.
- Contribute through Waccamaw Gives, where WCF will distribute donations to local organizations on your behalf.
- Support the ONE SC Fund, which provides statewide assistance to food banks — including those serving the Waccamaw Region.
“Every dollar makes a difference right now,” Mancuso added. “By giving through these channels, donors can be sure their gifts are feeding families and strengthening our community during this period of need.”
