Youthlinc

Weare are a 501c3 organization dedicated to creating lifetime humanitarians through quality service.

Nuts and Bolts of Youthlinc:
• Students currently enrolled in either high school and college are selected for participation through application and on the basis of their demonstrated commitment to community service, reliability, and ability to get along well with others.
• Students accepted into the program make a commitment to volunteer between 80 hours during the school year.
• Students then tra

vel on a two week service mission to a developing country in the summer at the end of the school year (Cambodia, Thailand, Peru, Guatemala, Kenya or Vietnam).
• Students are required to attend monthly meetings where they are mentored to take leadership roles in tasks at their international service site.
• Students are required to finance the balance of the cost of their international experience, which includes vaccinations, passport, and optional tourist activities. Financial aid and sponsorships are available.
• The international service experience includes involvement in construction and educational projects, medical activities under the supervision of American medical professionals, and cultural exchange activities with local students and individuals of all ages. Youthlinc staff, Rotarians, medical professionals, and educators mentor and accompany students.
• Youthlinc’s approach to international service is based in best practice research in international development. We work in partnership with small villages to bring sustainable change. We use project based and cooperative learning to ensure student ownership over each service project. Each international team is comprised of core committees (medical, education, cultural, microenterprise, vocational training, and construction), which allow students to guide the projects in each given area of development.

One of our favorite service projects in Real Life is decorating socks for senior living. The kids channel their inner Picasso and make each pair a unique piece of art while learning the importance of serving and caring for those in our community.

We’re grateful to see Youthlinc’s Ecuador Service Year team welcomed so generously by the community of Sacahuán.

This experience is about far more than completing projects. It is about working alongside local leaders, learning from the strength and traditions of the community, and contributing to priorities identified by the people who live there.

We’re especially grateful to the Nukari Foundation, Evelyn Yucailla, and the leaders and families of Sacahuán for their partnership, hospitality, and trust. This is what meaningful international service should look like: relationships first, local leadership at the center, and shared work toward lasting impact.

🌟 Meet the 2026 Youthlinc Utah Young Humanitarian Award recipients and finalists! 🌟

Each year, we have the privilege of recognizing Utah’s most outstanding young leaders who are creating meaningful change through service. From improving healthcare access and mentoring youth to supporting refugees, advocating for public health, and leading humanitarian initiatives around the world, this year’s recipients represent the incredible impact young people are making in their communities.

A special thank you to the George S. & Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation for their continued partnership and generous support of the Youthlinc Utah Young Humanitarian Award. Their investment in young leaders makes this program and $32,000 in scholarships possible each year.

We are also grateful to every student who applied and to the 45+ volunteer judges who dedicated their time to reviewing applications and interviewing finalists. This program is possible because of your commitment to recognizing and encouraging service.

Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients, finalists, and applicants. Your compassion, leadership, and dedication are making Utah and our world a better place.
