Bring Your Gifts

Bring Your Gifts Bring Your Gifts is a Christmas devotional featuring dance and live music performances. Experience it on Dec 7, 2012 at the Murray City Theater.

All proceeds will be donated to the women’s shelter at the Salt Lake City YWCA. We all have gifts. We all have talents, knowledge, and capabilities that help make us uniquely ourselves. And yet, those talents and gifts do not exist solely for our own benefit. They are to be used, and given of freely to help those around us. Bring Your Gifts is about doing just that. The show is based on the story

of the Nativity, but also brings in other characters, both from traditional Christmas lore and from scriptural events in the life of Christ. The dance and music performances will draw from various styles and cultures, as we are all children of Heavenly Parents with unique gifts to share, no matter where we come from.
100% of proceeds after costs will be donated to the Salt Lake City YWCA. Join us in bringing your gifts to help those in need.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out and supported the show (and that includes those of you who couldn't make it but bought a ticket or made a donation anyways). Thank you thank you for your love and support. I don't have the exact tally yet on how much we will be able to donate to the shelter, but when I do I will post it here. And thank you to all our outstanding performers and crew who made this show happen-I love you! I can't tell you how many compliments people have given all of you, you all really did great and I'm so proud of you!

From the wonderful Charles Galway-he does a great job describing the show : ) Thank you Charles! (Remember today is last day to buy tickets online. They will also be available at the door.)
"I've been watching this show come together -- and it's not just a
simple collection of folk dancers, and familiar bellies...
It has a few gorgeous lyrical choreographies put together just for
this show, as well as some live vocal and instrumental pieces -- some strictly musical, and some accompaniment.
To me, it's Tinuviel's vision of a Christmas music & dance show, that is meant to express the beauty of cultural dances, interspersed with a few wonderful arrangements of live music. Then connected together with silk-angel thread, and finished with lamp-light. If Clara sees a world of dance (in the Nutcracker Ballet) -- here we again get to see ethnic glimpses, and bring back our own visions of Earth and Spirit.
This show is intended to be appealing to a general public -- not just us belly-folk. And is performed in the unique Historic Murray Theater.A special show, to close out the year."

Another one of Bring Your Gifts wonderful music sponsors-Brothers of the Baladi! They were very excited about the show and send everyone wishes for a happy and safe holiday.
Brothers of the Baladi, a Portland, Oregon-based band have been performing for over 30 years by adapting traditional Middle Eastern music and American sensibilities to create a new hybrid of World Music. The quartet combines traditional acoustic Middle Eastern instruments and songs with western instrumentation, exotic rhythms with familiar grooves and vocals in seven languages (Arabic, Turkish, Farsi, French, Spanish, Armenian, Berber and English) to create a unique and highly rhythmic dance music. The Brothers have been blazing World Music trails around the globe through their recordings and live shows for over three decades.

Stephanie, a native to Utah, has loved dancing all her life. She received training in ballet, jazz, and tap as a child, but at the age of fifteen she, discovered her love for belly dancing, when she became introduced to the sensuous art form. After eighteen years of study, she has become a highly sought after performer and instructor. Her path in belly dance training started under the tutelage of local instructors Raffa and Aziz, and has taken her into a variety of dance arenas in order to create a well-rounded technical style. In her endeavor to continue to develop her dancing, Stephanie has examined Egyptian dance ethnology to create a solid foundation from which to enhance her knowledge of the cultural heritage of Middle Eastern dance. Stephanie is constantly building on her style incorporating tribal fusion, Latin, African, ballet, and jazz dance forms into her posture and movement. Her love of Egyptian dancers of the silver screen has inspired a style that encompasses a graceful beauty on stage, with energy, personality, exquisite technique and flirtation. REALLY important!!! It was brought to my attention that the time was misprinted on the tickets from 24tix. Since we cannot get a hold of everyone who has bought tickets thus far, and I don't want anyone to miss out because they thought the show was later, we are changing the start time of the show to 8 pm. I hope this isn't a huge problem for anyone. My very sincerest apologies. I hope you all still come! : )

Carl Moore Jr will be performing Native American hoop dance in Bring Your Gifts. The shapes created by the dancer using the hoops represent things found in the natural world, such as birds and other animals. The hoop is said to represent the ever continuing circle of life. The dance is spiritual and moving and Carl is a stunning practitioner of this art form.

Richie from X96 interviewed myself and Amberly from the YWCA today about the YWCA and Bring Your Gifts. It will broadcast on Utah Issues on Sunday, I'll hopefully have the broadcast time to tell you soon. The services that the YWCA provides to help women leave and heal from abusive situations are FREE to those women. BUT obviously they get expensive and 40% of the YWCA's budget comes from community support. Every Bring Your Gifts ticket sold is helping these women rebuild healthy lives.
