Tools for Schools this week...

Country radio station Z104 and Smith and Edwards are partnering to hold the annual Tools for Schools school supply drive August 4-5 at the Smith and Edwards on 9010 South Redwood Road in West Jordan. Individual supply donations will be accepted 10 am to 7 pm on Thursday, and 6 am to 7 pm on Friday. MEF officials will be on hand Friday from 5 to 7 pm.

Murray Education Foundation announced its recipients of the Laura Baker Professional Development Grant.

Named and founded in memory of one of Murray City School District's outstanding community leaders – including 22 years of service on the Murray Board of Education – Laura Baker was an important advocate of professional development among Murray educators. Though she passed away in 2011, her legacy for the love of learning continues in the recipients of the annual grants given in her name.

Congratulations to this year's recipients:

- Catherine Bigelow, Occupational Therapist, MCSD Assistive Technology Team
- Harmony Kryger, Elementary ESL Instructional Coach
- Heather Wihongi, Riverview Jr. High English/Journalism Teacher
- Mary Wilde, Parkside Elementary Intervention Specialist (1st - 3rd Grade)
- Heather Preece, Murray High School Social Worker
- Susan Holden, Horizon Elementary Social Worker

What more can we say…

BMW of Murray has stepped up big this year to put up an amazing angel tree at their location on State Street. They’ve invited their staff and patrons to Support more than 100 Murray students this holiday season.

Today a group of students from Liberty Elementary expressed their appreciation to BMW for their amazing support.

There’s still time if you want to pull a name off of their tree you can do so until Friday.

Each year, Murray Education Foundation uses proceeds from the Annual Golf Tournament to provide teachers with funding to take on special projects. Starting this week, with Mr. Mikey at Grant we will highlight some of those ideas and programs where the funding is being put to use.

Huge thanks to all of our sponsors, golfers and volunteers at today’s successful Murray Education Foundation golf tournament. The funding generated at these events has contributed $350,000 to create more than 1100 grants for teachers and students in the district.
