Lithium ion batteries are highly sensitive to both volts and amperes in their charging. This is why the right cord matters. The cord that was supplied by the manufacturer is best. If it is lost or damaged, you need a safe replacement that meets the requirements of your device and it should be UL listed or approved by another national safety organization.

Mobility devices like E-bikes and hoverboards and power tools use a lot of energy and have powerful batteries. It is best to charge them outside- but keep them out of direct sunshine and away from anything flammable. Sunlight can cause excess heat buildup that can damage the battery and increase the chance of a fire.

The focus this year is on safe charging for lithium ion batteries.

Lithium Ion battery fires continue to increase about 10% every year. There are more and more battery operated tools, toys, phones and digital devices, laptops and mobility devices.

β€’ Overcharging: Leaving a device plugged in past 100% can overheat the internal cells.
β€’ Damaged Equipment: Cheap, uncertified replacement chargers or frayed cords fail to regulate voltage properly.
β€’ Thermal Runaway: A damaged or hot battery can start a fast chemical chain reaction that produces intense heat and toxic gas.

Studies show that as many as 68% of teens sleep with their phone in the bed or under the pillow with it charging. This is very dangerous as the phone can overheat and cause a fire or burn them. Sandwiched between the bed and pillow is even more likely to cause overheating as heat cannot escape, top or bottom. The same risk can happen on your sofa and other soft furniture, especially if a charging device slips between the cushions.

Please teach your kids safe charging. They should not sleep with the phone IN the bed and that they should charge it then unplug it before going to sleep.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

1 in 8 women will get breast cancer and 1 in 755 men.
We encourage everyone to know the signs and seek medical care if you have concerns.

The most common symptom of breast cancer is a new lump or mass, although most breast lumps are not cancer. A painless, hard, fixed mass that has irregular edges is more likely to be cancer, but breast cancer can also be soft, round, tender, or even painful.

Other possible symptoms of breast cancer include:

Swelling of all or part of a breast even if no lump is felt.
Skin dimpling, sometimes looking like an orange peel.
Ni**le or breast skin that is red, dry, flaking, or thickened.
Breast or ni**le pain.
Ni**le retraction (turning inward).
Ni**le discharge other than breast milk.
Swollen lymph nodes under the arm or near the collarbone can be a symptom of breast cancer spread even before the original tumor in the breast is large enough to be felt.

And remember that many of these symptoms can have benign causes, but please check with a health care professional
