We’d like to clarify that there are no plans to raze the Culberson Community Center.
A Nov. 5th report in The Cherokee Scout states:
“In Culberson, the fire department plans to raze the old community center at 4348 N.C. 60 for use for emergency services.”
This information is incorrect, and we’d like to kindly clear the air. No hard feelings whatsoever—we simply want to make sure the community has the right information.
Here are the facts:
Plans are underway to improve and expand the existing building: not demolish it. These upgrades will allow the Culberson Volunteer Fire Department to better support emergency services while continuing to provide space for election voting and community events.
Like our neighbors in Wolf Creek, Culberson is working to enhance its ISO rating and strengthen local emergency response. Use of the Culberson Community Development Center declined during COVID-19 and has not fully recovered, but our goal is to revitalize this vital community space.
We’ve worked closely with Cherokee County administration and the Culberson Volunteer Fire Department to ensure the property remains a true benefit to the community.
The building will not only remain: it will be improved.
