Yesterday we celebrated International Dot Day!

Surprise! The state sanitation inspector arrived this morning! They don't just check for cleanliness. They also check that all of our materials are safe for children such as paints, markers, dirt that is in bags, toys etc. They also make sure all storage doors are locked and that cleaners or other hazardous items are locked up include staff purses. They also make sure the cleaners are mixed to the correct strength! They also inspect the playground, check that the building is in good repair. They also check that our refrigerator is at a safe temperature and that our water is the correct temperature. Handwash sinks and the kitchen sink have to be at different temperatures!

Grades 5-8 are working on an outdoor education unit that is taking them to 4 different area rivers (within a couple hours drive) to complete various activities. Each river is a different water shed. The unit incorporates science, math and language arts. Students will learn about the wildlife, make graphs, use a turbidity tube that they made, test the pH and use an invertebrate biotic index to grade the quality of the water, write numerous papers and have lots of fun in the process.

I put this together years ago to help with fire drills. There are more pages but these are some of the pages. The last page has the things to do attached with velcro to allow the kids to put in order what to do when they hear the alarm.
