We received this message in late August of 2022 from mom Dawn Payton:

Hello!! My son, Phenix, has been battling Tcell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia since March of 2020..he had just turned 18, so it was especially hard for him, and us, because that was right when Covid really hit, and since he was considered an “adult” he had to face most of his procedures and treatments by himself because of visitor restrictions😢 He did just “ring the bell” for his last chemo on Aug 1st of this year, but his battle is far from over..he’ll still have many doctors visits, readministration of childhood vaccines(because chemo wiped them all out), he’ll have a port removal surgery, and he’s not considered “cured” until he’s been in remission for 5 years. So, although the worst is hopefully behind us, this journey isn’t over!!..he is a huge Anaheim Ducks hockey fan and a portrait incorporating that somehow would truly make his day!!!..he’s missed out on a lot of life these past 2 and a half years..watching his friends graduate, go off to college, drive, have girlfriends, ect has been very hard on him..but he’s always kept a positive attitude and has been so brave!! He truly is my hero!!..I’ll attach a couple recent pictures and if you have any questions, please message me!..I also understand if the demand for portraits is just too much to give to everyone..I just appreciate that you’re doing this for families like ours!! Thank you!!!

Here at Artists For A Cure we try to accommodate as many families as possible with this gift and sometimes it may take longer than expected. We apologize for the delay.
We took Dawn's advice and created a portrait of Phenix as a member of the Anaheim Ducks.

This is Dawn's message we received along with pics after they had received the painting: We all LOVE the portrait that was done for us!! Huge appreciation to this group and the artists involved!!! And how beautifully this artist captured my son❤️ It’s amazing!!!
Since I contacted you initially, Phenix is thriving!! All of his check ups have been great and he remains in remission 🥰 He’ll still have regular labs for a few more years, but his future looks bright!! He recently got his diploma, which had been delayed by chemo and Covid, and is signed up to begin computer science classes soon!
Thank you again, so much, you you and your artists!! What you do is so appreciated!!

Phenix has since turned 21 years old in January and he has a bright future ahead of him.

Here at Artists For A Cure we receive numerous requests from families for their cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc., but the majority of requests come from either dad or mom. Understandably, the vast majority of requests come from the mothers of these warrior sons and daughters.

This is the message we received from Dawn, mother of Serenity.
Hello I may be late responding to this message, sorry my daughter is a St. Jude patient and she was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma stage 3 cancer back in 2021. She is our family's brave little princess warrior. She the youngest of 4 and it has been hard for her to adjust to a new way of life due to cancer. I would like to know if this service is still available for warriors like my Serenity?

Serenity is another warrior child battling cancer and like many young girls her age, she envisions herself as a princess. Her favorite princess is Princess Tiana from Walt Disney's The Princess and the Frog.

Being a princess means that you are kind, brave, confident, and compassionate. A princess takes pride in the way she presents herself and in who she is, but much more. A princess does not define herself by clothing and makeup, rather by attitude, morals and life choices. A princess is kind and loving. These are the attributes of Princess Serenity.

Another member of our artist family here at Artists For A Cure created a portrait of Princess Serenity that will be treasured for years to come. Thank you Wilma for bringing Princess Serenity to life. It is our hope and prayer that Serenity will grow stronger and that she will be victorious against this cancer. With the love and support of her family and friends, we are quite confident that will happen.

Message from mom when the painting was delivered today: Hello thank you so much she is so happy about her painting she said mother it is beautiful and it’s me🫶🫶😊😊 thank you for the spark of Joy

Please take the time to learn about Serenity and her journey and help if you can.

Here at Artists For A Cure we not only strive to bring art into the lives of children and their families, but it is our prayer to bring joy, hope, and inspiration to as many children and families as possible.

Hello everyone. I would like to introduce you to Samuel. Yet another warrior who has been battling leukemia. Like many boys his age, Samuel is very curious and likes to tinker with things. This is what his mother Lindsay had to say: He wants to grow up and be a robot builder and work with mechanics and inventions.

Lee Anne Parsons, the president of Artists For A Cure, took time out of her busy schedule to create a portrait of Samuel as a patented robot inventor. As with art, talent can be fostered and grown by pursuing one's own interests and we are confident that Samuel will achieve his dream.

Samuel is one of many children today that battle daily just to live the life of a normal child. Our children are the future. Childhood diseases should be eradicated from our future. It is up to all of us.

I don't know about you, but one of the scariest places to go when I was a child was the hospital. I went multiple times as a young boy to get stitches and the scars are there to remind me. It's tough being a child sometimes, but it's even tougher when you have a childhood disease.

Here at Artists For A Cure we like to refer to these children as warriors. In the truest sense of the word they are warriors. It takes bravery to go through all of the poking, prodding, and testing at any hospital and these children face their fears daily.

Everyone, I would like to introduce you to yet another child warrior, Landon. He is a rambunctious 7 year old boy who has been battling leukemia and according to his mother Erin he is a conqueror. As a matter of fact, Landon The Conqueror is his Instagram.

Erin told us that Landon would love to be portrayed as a knight. One of our fantastic artists Carolyn created a portrait of Sir Landon; tall, statuesque, and brave. What better example of bravery and a warrior spirit than a knight in shining armor.

It is our hope that Landon and his family will continue to battle against any and all adversities that may come their way and it is our prayer that Landon will conquer leukemia once and for all. Stay strong Landon.
Erin, thank you for reaching out and for allowing us to be a small part of Landon's ongoing journey.

Every portrait begins with one message. Aimee's mother Korie contacted us not only because of the trials her daughter has faced, but also for Aimee's love of art and her determination to be an artist.

Hello...our 13 year-old daughter is has incurable brain cancer and is hospice care. Her page is Aimee’s Adventure or my page. She loves art and would love your services if they are available to her. I looked at your page and saw the many beautiful blessings that you all have shared.
Aimee loves art, her chickens, and her Chihuahua, Pippa.

Of course Aimee is also an animal lover. What better way to spend your time as an artist than to be surrounded by the animals that you so dearly love. It is our hope and prayer that Aimee can pursue her dream and she is more than deserving of this portrait gift.

One of our artists Cristal Baldwin created a beautiful portrait of Aimee as the animal loving artist that she is. Artists For A Cure wouldn't exist without our family of wonderful artists. Thank you Cristal.

Please take the time to learn about Aimee and her family and help in any way that you can.

Here at Artists For A Cure there are many times that we are in contact with families and a portrait that was supposed to be inspiration for a child during their battle becomes a commemorative portrait for a family. This was the case for Esther Desrosiers and her family.

Our President Lee Anne had been in contact with Esther's father for some time and just when we were going to reach out to an artist, her father Jim informed us that she had passed away. This portrait became a celebration of Esther's life.

Jim shared a picture of his daughter that he said personified who she was and how she lived her life. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I'd say that Esther's picture is worth a series of novels. She lived her life with zest, s***k, and silliness.

Lee Anne was on a mission. She reached out to one of our fantastic artists, Wilma Ruth King. She was more than ecstatic to be able to create a portrait of Esther which celebrated her life. Wilma has always been ready and willing whenever we call. It is an honor to have such fine artists like her within our organization. We could not do what we do without them. Thank you Wilma.

We ask that you please take the time to learn about Esther and her loving family and help if you can.
