We are thankful for Libby Green and her dedication to not only The Foundation but also Murfreesboro City Schools!
MCS Connections + Grow Your Own | Rebecca & Libby Green
Sometimes, a career really does come full circle.
Rebecca Green attended Erma Siegel Elementary from kindergarten through sixth grade. Today, she is back at ESE teaching first grade, helping create the same kind of meaningful experiences for a new generation of MCS students.
Rebecca has been part of MCS for six years teaching at both Hobgood and Erma Siegel.
Her calling to become a teacher started in middle school, when she began to understand just how important education is and the impact a teacher can have on a child's life.
Rebecca was blessed with incredible teachers throughout her elementary years, including Mr. Ritch Campbell, who taught her kindergarten and “set the tone for an amazing seven years.”
“I always knew I wanted to teach in a district like MCS where students and teachers are not just numbers, but are known as individuals,” Rebecca said. “I left the district for a few years and missed the purpose-driven nature of MCS. Coming back was like a breath of fresh air.”
For Rebecca, returning to Erma Siegel feels like coming home.
“Having been a part of the system as a child, I reaped the benefits of highly-skilled and highly-caring teachers. I hope that now I am part of that legacy for the next generation!”
Rebecca's mom, Libby, understands that MCS legacy firsthand. Libby and her husband, Gary, both attended Mitchell-Neilson, where they built their own foundation through the teachers and experiences they had as students.
Today, Libby continues that connection to MCS as a member of the City Schools Foundation Board, helping support teachers and students across the district.
Libby said she was honored to join the Foundation Board because she wanted to give back to the school system that had given so much to her family. Through the Foundation, she now helps support teacher grants that provide additional opportunities and resources for MCS classrooms.
And watching her daughter return to the district makes that connection even more meaningful.
“Rebecca has truly come home,” Libby said. “This is a full circle story for her.”
From MCS students, to MCS educators, to supporting MCS through the City Schools Foundation, the Green family's connection to Murfreesboro City Schools spans generations.
MCS is special to our family because we are all proud products of our city schools,” Libby said. “It is especially meaningful that we have all remained in Murfreesboro and have been able to serve our local community.
