A warm doughnut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across The Salvation Army Murfreesboro find comfort, support, and hope through our community meals, summer camp, and supportive housing.

More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army Murfreesboro, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion through our community meals and food services🍽️.
