Last night we enjoyed a wonderful program by Rhiannon Scoville who shared amazing photos showing the incredible bounty of her sustainability lifestyle. She grows much of her food and preserves her harvest to use throughout the year. She also sells vegetable and flower seeds online. Her photos of her vegetables are also stunning! You can follow her on Facebook at Rhiannon Scoville and at Rhiannons_garden_goodies at Instagram and TikTok.

We see it everywhere: mulch piled high up against the trunk of a tree. It looks "neat," but it is killing your tree.
This "mulch volcano" traps moisture against the bark, leading to rot, fungus, and pest infestation. It can also encourage the tree to grow roots into the mulch rather than into the ground, making it unstable.
The fix: The "Donut Method." Spread mulch in a circle around the tree, but leave a 3-inch gap between the mulch and the actual trunk. The tree needs to breathe.

The moment a snake plant leaf droops past that critical angle, something decisive happens beneath the surface. The plant has already begun withdrawing resources, sealing off the vascular pathways that once fed that leaf. What looks like sudden damage is actually the end of a calculated process that started weeks earlier. The plant recognized the leaf could no longer contribute to photosynthesis efficiently and began the quiet work of resource reallocation. When you cut that drooping leaf at soil level with clean scissors, you are simply completing what the plant has already decided. The energy that was being wasted on a non-functional leaf immediately becomes available for new shoots. Within days, you can see the difference in how the remaining leaves stand. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is help our plants finish what they have already started. [0P2UJ]
