Here are some of the latest statistics on gun‑related violence in and around Hammond, Indiana / Lake County, Indiana:
• In Lake County in 2024, there were 65 homicides investigated by the Coroner’s Office, which is 12% fewer than the 74 homicides in 2023. 
• Within that, Hammond had 13 homicides in 2024. 
• For the state of Indiana overall: in 2023, there were 1,258 gun deaths, including 436 homicides and 757 suicides. 
• Also for Indiana in 2024: an estimated 1.2 thousand people died from gun‑related injuries, at a rate of approximately 17.5 per 100,000 people.

I want to take a moment to truly thank everyone who showed love, support, and kindness on Katelyn’s heavenly birthday. Whether you came out to the balloon release, sent a message, said “Happy Birthday Katelyn,” or simply kept us in your prayers — please know it meant the world to me and our family.

Seeing all the purple and black balloons rise into the sky was such a powerful reminder that Katelyn’s light continues to shine through every one of us. Your presence, your love, and your words brought comfort and strength to my heart on a day that’s both painful and beautiful.

From the bottom of my heart — thank you for helping me honor Katelyn’s memory and celebrate her 32nd heavenly birthday with so much love.
