Silver Sponsor Spotlight: United Steelworkers
From the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to the banks of the Ohio River in southern Ohio, members in District 1 are the backbone of the economies in their states. They make steel, tires, glass, paper, petrochemicals, auto parts, pipes, ceramics, paint and countless other essential goods. They mine iron ore, drive buses, refine oil, produce chemicals and care for patients in hospitals and nursing facilities. All the while, they have each other's backs in the fight for strong contracts, safer workplaces and secure retirements.
"OH-MI, District 1 members are some of the best in the USW!
We are 850,000 members and retirees strong in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean, proudly representing workers in nearly every industry. Our members serve as leaders in our communities, our workplaces and our halls of government. For more than 80 years, we've been fighting for justice and equality on the job and beyond.
Our History
The USW's foundation dates back generations, born of a shared commitment to fighting for better conditions for workers everywhere. In times of war and peace and through economic recession and boom times, we remain driven by our core guiding principles: helping all workers achieve better wages, greater job security, more reasonable hours and safer working conditions.
Our activism helped end child labor, institute workplace safety laws, champion civil and human rights and so much more. We're proud of our history and are committed to carrying that momentum forward.
