What items will the sinking fund cover? The school has proposed it be broken into 4 categories. We will talk about #1 today. Safety and Security. The proposed updates for safety and security are as follows: Mather Elementary pick up and drop off improvements, Structural repairs at Mather Elementary such as degrading brickwork and collapsing chimneys, new interior and exterior safety locks, and better outdoor lighting.

Next post will by facility updates and improvements.

Why is the term sinking fund used? Sinking fund is the official name of this type of funding- it is a “pay as you go” system that does not require borrowing money or paying interest unlike a traditional Millage.

What can sinking funds be used for you ask? Transportation, repairs, and upgrades.
What can it not be used for you ask?
Salaries and sports teams
Sinking funds are a community’s investment into the actual, physical school building that our children attend and the transportation that takes so many of them to school.
Vote yes in May!!! Say Yes for Munising’s kids.

Why do we need a sinking fund you ask? 🤔
This morning is a prime example of why our school district is in need of a way to fund repairs and infrastructure upgrades.
Today a mass text went out to all parents in the district that the heating system at the Middle-High school is completely out and they are working on restoring it. They advised for the kids to wear sweatshirts to school because of it……..
This is in no way a reflection of the school but a reflection of the FUNDING available to the school to pay for necessary repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.
We want our kids warm and safe when they are in school……don’t we? That’s what sinking funds are for!!!
Vote Yes in May!!!!! Say yes for Munising’s kids.

Who knows what a sinking fund is?
A sinking fund is a millage that funds school safety improvements, technology improvements, transportation for students, and the repair or new construction of school buildings!
What projects does the Munising area school system need? Suggestions below- I will start- A carpool lane at Mather Elementary to improve student safety and expedite the pickup and drop off process.
