🏡 LIVING IN A CO-OP 101: A FRIENDLY REMINDER TO OUR MEMBERS! 🏡
The MHHA Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to re-share our “Living in a Co-Op 101” educational series.
Recently, we've received an increasing number of complaints, concerns, and maintenance requests regarding matters that are not necessarily the responsibility of the Board or the Co-Op.
We want to remind everyone of one very important distinction:
📢 THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE NOT YOUR LANDLORDS!
When you live in MHHA, you are not a traditional renter. You are a shareholder and member of a cooperative community. With that ownership comes certain rights, privileges, and responsibilities.
As a shareholder, you are responsible for the general care, upkeep, and maintenance of your unit, except for those items specifically identified as the Co-Op's responsibility within the MHHA governing documents.
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the operations, finances, policies, and overall well-being of our cooperative community. Our role is not to function as individual landlords or assume responsibility for every repair, improvement, or concern within a member's unit.
🤝 WHY ARE WE SHARING THIS?
Our goal is not to discourage members from reporting legitimate concerns or submitting maintenance requests. Rather, we want to help everyone better understand how cooperative living works, what responsibilities belong to shareholders, and what responsibilities belong to MHHA.
Understanding these differences helps us:
- Reduce unnecessary maintenance requests and complaints.
- Allow our maintenance team to focus on repairs that fall under the Co-Op's responsibility.
- Protect our community's financial resources.
- Encourage pride and accountability in maintaining our homes.
- Build a stronger, more informed cooperative community.
❤️ REMEMBER: WE ARE A COOPERATIVE, NOT A RENTAL COMPLEX!
The success of MHHA depends on all of us doing our part. Our monthly Co-Op fee(rent)support the operation and upkeep of our community, but they do not eliminate individual shareholder responsibilities.
We encourage every member to take a few moments to review our “Living in a Co-Op 101” series and familiarize themselves with the MHHA governing documents.
When we all understand our responsibilities and work together, we create a stronger, safer, and more financially stable community for everyone!
